Accomplished, interesting, and fun, Diane was a treasured friend. Our friendship was grounded in similar interests and our involvement for years (decades!) in a book club with other spirited women. Our bookies group had memorable adventures to Italy, Mexico, and regional excursions. I’m adding some photos from trips to Italy. My favorite is the one of her at The Wishing Tree at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice. Brought to tears reading wishes others had written and hung on the tree, she commented on the blessings she’d been given and the importance of helping others. She did not say what her wish was, only that it was for someone else.

What I most valued about my Aunt Diane is the effort she always made to see me when I came in for a visit from out of state! And through the years, if she was going to be in NYC, she contacted me and we arranged to meet. It delighted my heart to send her an enlarged photograph a coworker had made in 2004 when the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary ships were in NYC Harbor! She was delighted with it!! I always enjoyed getting a phone call from her asking me a detail or date about her father's POW experience from the timeline and archival research I had completed in 2004. When my father was in his final month in 2023, she made every effort to get down from Long Beach to Anaheim numerous times in order to spend time with him. That meant a lot to him and to me! As we age, it's difficult to see our loved ones health fail. I'm very grateful that I did get to see her one final time on March 6, 2026 when Father Michael came to the care facility in Boulder to administer the Sacrament of the Sick to her. I could tell it meant a lot to her. I was out of the country when she passed on March 29, 2026 (Easter Sunday night), but had been praying for her peaceful passing and give thanks to God she is now in her eternal home. It's an honor for me to be able to attend her memorial and I'm looking forward to meeting some of her friends who valued her presence and role in their life. With love, Laura xx
