Debra Benson
June 17th, 1958 - April 7th, 2023
June 17th, 1958 - April 7th, 2023
Benson, Debra (Deb/Debbie) June, age 64, of Rush City, MN passed away on April 7, 2023 after battling many ailments with the support of her family. Debra was born on June 17, 1958 in the neighborhood of San Pedro in Los Angeles, CA to parents Marvin Theodore Weinzetl and Charlotte Jean Lovejoy. She moved many times throughout her childhood with her sisters Audrey, Brenda, and Charleen. Debra attended Luverne High School in Luverne, MN where she graduated in 1976. She later met John Benson and fell in love. They were married on September 7, 1985 and moved to the Twin Cities, landing in Rush City, MN in 1986. Debra and John have 3 children: Derek (Kristina), Jennifer (Grant), and Jason (Samantha and daughters Staecia and Kyndra); and 7 grandchildren: Bryce, Brody, Bryan, Brady, Theodore (Teddy), Briar, and Lucy.
Debra enjoyed being outdoors soaking up the sun and listening to music. She loved being on the lake with her husband, friends, and family. She often enjoyed campfires and stargazing. During the winter months she could be found in front of her oversized television watching the MN Wild hockey games. Debra found the changing weather of MN to be exciting and continued to call her adult children to give them the weather forecast well into their adulthoods. Her calling in life was to be a mother. She dedicated her life to raising her children and experienced immense joy in being a grandmother.
Debra is preceded in death by her parents Marvin Weinzetl and Charlotte Lovejoy.
Debra's family is having a small, private memorial to celebrate her life.
