I was so sorry to learn of Dave's passing. We met in college and kept in touch through the years. He was extremely intelligent as well as kind and thoughtful. I was fortunate to meet his Mom once when she visited DC, where Dave and I lived for a number of years. She was lovely and Dave was so proud of her and his whole family, and enjoyed updating me on their activities when we talked. When I eat a great Chinese meal I will toast Dave - a wonderful person I was lucky to know and will miss.

Dave was an all around great guy. When I was first hired at ULLICO, there was no room for me to park in the building. If I worked late, Dave would stop what he was doing and walk me to my car. I could also call him if traffic was bad and he could get me out of DC (long before GPS) if I gave him my current location. I worked with Dave for about 10 years and met up with him at many Society of Actuaries meetings. In all that time, he never said a negative word about anyone or anything. He was a truly decent man who will be missed.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Dave at many Weizenbaum-Nussbaum family gathering over the years. He was one of the rare human beings who listened more than he spoke. When he did share, it was always a cogent or witty observation. He patiently explained the actuarial field to me (no mean feat since I struggle with numbers) and was always game to chat about anything. I will aim to pass on the sweetness to the world that Dave personified. My arms are wrapped around Sharon, Jon, Suzy, Nancy, Emma, Camille and all the other family members who loved him. May his memory be for a blessing.

Jon Weizenbaum

Our world became a little less sweet with the passing of David (Dave) Weizenbaum, age 64, on August 18, 2023 in Oceanside, NY, after a long hospitalization. Born the oldest of three children to Sharon Kahn and Joseph Weizenbaum in Dayton, Ohio, Dave graduated from Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Arizona in 1977 and the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1981. Dave worked as an actuary for over 40 years in the insurance field for a variety of employers, including GEICO, Union Labor Life Insurance, The Hartford, UnitedHealth Group, the State of Connecticut, ING, Hannover Life, and QBE, where he was employed at the time of his passing. He was a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a former president of the Actuarial Club of Washington, DC. Dave’s friendly, open personality and deep loyalty was treasured by his many friends and family members across the years and throughout the United States. He loved good food and inspiring travel, especially for the chance to reconnect with old coworkers and buddies. Many of them have already shared memories of his patience, good humor and mentoring of new staff through the many technical challenges of actuarial work. The best way to honor Dave’s memory would be to have a great Italian meal with old friends and to befriend that new person in your office or community. Dave was preceded in death by his father Joseph Weizenbaum (Eileen) of Tucson, Arizona in 2013. He is survived by his mother Sharon Kahn, brother Jon Weizenbaum (Nancy), sister Suzanne Weizenbaum and niece Camille Weizenbaum, all of Austin, Texas and by niece Emma Weizenbaum (Sam), great nieces Emmy and Maya Ling and great nephew Everett Ling, of Watertown, Massachusetts.

A true mensch with a kind heart. When we shared an apartment, David so patiently tolerated my musical instrument practicing. Throughout my travels and jobs, David always called me and visited. When I was not well, he checked on me. David is the living definition of a true life long friend. I will never forget his sincere caring and genuine kindness. Even when his own health was difficult, he always made time to call and catch up. Baruch Dayan Emet. May David's memory be a Blessing.
