November 14th, 1931 - April 28th, 2020
November 14th, 1931 - April 28th, 2020
In loving memory and spirit of David Ronald Torres.
Born November 14, 1931 in Denver, CO to parent's Eugene and Addie Torres. Died April 28, 2020 in Santa Fe, NM and was laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
David was born during the Great Depression in Denver as one of three brothers. He is survived by 7 children, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
David was a collegiate athlete at Trinidad State Junior College, setting local records with his football and baseball stats. At the young age of 18, David joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the artillery division in the Korean War. David is a proud Purple Heart recipient.
David went on to get his Masters in education and worked as an educator and administrator for 42 years. He was teacher and principal in New Mexico and Texas. When he retired, he became a cattle rancher on the Torres family ranch in Model, CO. He spent his final years in Santa Fe, NM.
David is remembered by friends and family as a kind, generous man with a sharp sense of humor. He loved his family and being around children. He lived a long life and was always teaching, in one form or another. He loved his children and never gave up on anyone that he knew. It is safe to say, everyone who knew David loved him and recognized the special light that he possessed. A light that he graciously shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be missed by many.

Mr. Torres was a real gentleman and a professional. I was a student intern and he treated me with dignity and respect.

I will always remember David a man who was kind and also a man who loved education. One of the most profound memory I have of David was when I was a student at TSJC and I ran into him in the library. I had told him I was considering dropping out of college and getting a job as a means of supporting my family. He talked with me for a long period of time and instilled in me confidence to move forward in my educational endeavors. He was right there for me at the right time and place. I will be forever grateful for that conversation. He was also a very close cousin to my mom. As my mom and David got older they still loved one another very much. A few years ago my mom told me "Billy, I want to go see David. Take me to see David". We drove out to see David in Santa Fe. David asked me to come close to him. I got close to him and he took my hand and told me "Thank you for bringing Helen to see him. I love you and am proud of you". I try and promote education in people I talk to all the time. There have been several times when people who have gone to college have thanked me for words of encouragement. Basically David's recommendations and encouragement he gave me I pass on to others and it just keeps going. God bless David R Torres and all his amazing family.
