Loved Ones

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our husband, father and brother, David William Casey, passed away early Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Palm Desert, California. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Kraetzer, three children (Keller Casey {Denver, Colorado}, Alexis Casey {Herzogenaurach, Germany} and Kieran Casey {San Jose, California}), his sister (Glenda Schwartz {Toledo, Ohio}), and four spunky grandchildren (Graham, Hayden, Case and Maeve), as well as, a host of other family and dear friends. David Casey was born October 19, 1944 in Boca Raton, Florida in the middle of a hurricane to Sam and Mary Lue Casey. He grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and later moved to Wichita, Kansas. He attended Carleton College (Northfield, Minnesota, Class of 1966), the University of Washington (Seattle, M.S. Mathematics), and the University of Toledo College of Law (Ohio, J.D.). After school, he lived in California where he taught law at Western State Law School (Fullerton), and where he met his wife, Priscilla, who was also a professor at the school. He later taught Math at Citrus Community College (Glendora). He retired in 2013 to a beautiful spot on the banks of the Clackamas River in Eagle Creek, Oregon. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud Opa (grandfather), math geek, avid reader, prolific traveler, keen motorcyclist, and erstwhile amatuer pilot. He lived a wonderful life and will be greatly missed. I met David in July 2019, when I went on a holiday to the United States with my friend Sophie and her parents. We stayed with him and his wife, Priscilla, for more than four weeks. David was a kindly spirited man, who enjoyed his life to the fullest. I could see this in the things we did together. During our stay, Sophie, David, and I used to visit the yoghurt place in Estacada quite often. He was a huge fan of frozen yoghurts topped with a lot of sweets. Another thing of which he was a big fan of, was rock music. I remember Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls blasting through the speakers of the Tesla on our way home from the Yoghurt place once. We also played Queen, The Rolling Stones and other rock ‘n roll bands during our almost daily Five Crowns games. Speaking of Five Crowns, he was very competitive when we played this game. We were defeated many times by him when we played the card game together. I believe Sophie and I only managed to defeat him once, which was quite a victory. Tequila was another thing that held his interest. One evening, during our card game of Five Crowns, he dared Sophie and me to try one of his tequilas. I can tell you; it was very hard to not make a sour face. I may not have liked the tequila, but I was glad to see that David was having a good time. During the last few days of our stay in Estacada, we did a lot of things together. We went to a car show in McMinnville, where we saw a lot of cars (no surprise there); to a vineyard, where we tasted some wines recommended by David, and lastly, we went paddle boarding in Mulino. These last three things were all things David enjoyed doing and seeing, and I am glad he shared that with us. I may not have known him for a very long time, but I am delighted to have met him. He was a beautiful, kind, and funny person through and through, and he will be missed. My thoughts are with Priscilla and their family.
