David Burpee
January 9th, 1951 - December 26th, 2022
January 9th, 1951 - December 26th, 2022
David (Dave) Allen Burpee grew up in Maine, the oldest of five children. He was one of the most gentle, kindest, loving, and playful guys you would ever want to meet. After graduating high school he was drafted into the military and sent to serve in Viet Nam. He proudly served two terms as a Navy Seabee.
He did a lot of different jobs over the years, but one of the most rewarding things he ever did was fighting for our military men/women, especially our veterans. David and his second wife were very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization, including serving at the State level. Dave would often go and sit with a fellow veteran who was mentally struggling, despite dealing with PTSD himself.
In addition to having a deep love for his family, he had a deep love of Jesus, though he was never an outspoken Christian. He had a quiet gentleness about him, but would astound you with his knowledge and understanding of scripture.
He had a playful side that could make you smile on your darkest day. The countless practical jokes, regular jokes, and antics he came up with never grew old. He took life with a grain of salt and never seemed to let it bring him down or change who he was.
Dave was welcomed into Heaven on December 26, 2022 by his parents, Tom and Marie Burpee, and his sister, Judith Meuschke.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debi; his 2 sons Chief Matthew Burpee (Michele), USN retired and Major Shane Burpee (Tessa), USAF; his 2 stepdaughters LeAnna Perez and Renee Youngless (Matt); 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; his brother John Burpee (Nancy); sister Guylene Bean (Steve); sister Missi Potter (Ed); his special "sister" cousin Barbara Desso (Clem); and numerous nieces and nephews.
