David was an avid sports fan.  He was good at most sports he tried.  He played soccer and AFL as a child, and later played cricket.  He was a member of the Burbengary Cricket Club for many years, and a member of the Palmer Cricket Club at the time of his death.

He had three children in his first marriage to Gayle:  Michelle (Shelly), Veronica and Robert.
While he may not always have expressed himself well, he loved his kids and was very proud of their achievements.
