Daryl Dietrich Obituary
Daryl Dietrich, age 33, died on August 18, 2023, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Daryl was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin on June 28, 1990, and he grew up in Oregon, Wisconsin.
Daryl enjoyed playing with his siblings, making Lego creations, roller-blading, skate-boarding, and riding his bike. He was a good swimmer. Daryl was independent, and often said, “I’m capable!” when help was offered.
Daryl was intelligent, strong, and impulsive. He loved food–except vegetables! Daryl’s drink of choice was always Mountain Dew, and he was still enjoying it two days before he died.
Daryl was also restless, and liked adventure. He rushed in, before thinking through the consequences. When Daryl was 18, he quit school, and headed to the West Coast, coming back to Wisconsin only one time. He became a wanderer, visiting states up and down the Coast. California, specifically San Francisco, became the place that he always returned to.
Daryl’s body was wearing out, and he was tired. He passed in his sleep, finally at peace.
Daryl is survived by his parents Barb Dietrich of Stoughton and Pat (Martha) Dietrich of Madison. He is also survived by his siblings, Jordan Dietrich, M (Sara) VanSteenbergen, Chandra Dietrich, Jyotika Dietrich, Heather Ziesmer, Amber (Scott) Burger, and Gabriel Wood. He is further survived by his grandparents, Keith and Helen McNett, step-brothers Evan Mittenzwei, Amery Mittenzwei, and Payton (Ellie) Mittenzwei, foreign exchange brother, Arif Merchant, many aunts, uncles, cousins, niece and nephews, and special friends Sandy VandeHey and family, Shannon Ducharme and Michael Iurato.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Ann Ziesmer, grandparents, Bob and Beulah Dietrich, and Bill and Judy Ziesmer, and aunts and uncles Jan Peto, Karen Cushman, Greg Lenz, and Mark Krohn.
Funeral services will be on September 23, 2023 at People’s United Methodist Church in Oregon, Wisconsin at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be at the church at 10:30 AM, until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Homeless Youth Alliance, National Institute of Mental Health, or for a memorial in Daryl’s name.
Rest now, Daryl. Drink some Mountain Dew.

Dear Barb and family, I am so sorry to read this sad news about Daryl. Even though it has been many years I can still see him in my with his sharp whit and playful ways:). I can only imagine he spread some good vibes and cheer along his way out west. Because I never saw him much after he left 6th grade I will always remember him with that somewhat mischievous smile that he was willing to give so freely.

We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Daryl. We have sweet memories of Daryl playing soccer in Oregon while Michael was his coach. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
