What a pleasure to be at Darrel's life celebration yesterday! I laughed and cried and was reminded of what a good friend Darrel was to Joni and I and so many others. WHAT A WORK OF GOD HE WAS!!!!

Darrell was a great person and a great cousin I spent weekends at his house when we were younger had many phone calls about school work till later in life we talked a lot these last few years and now you have gained your throne with God our father I always looked up to you as an older brother not just a cousin. Please save me a seat with our Father. Tim

Darrell was the Best man at our wedding in 1978. A treasured childhood friend of my husband Tim. He was always kind and gracious to us all these years. And always left us with this message, ‘ And God Bless’. We’re so grateful to have known you Darrell. Now, God Bless you and rest in His peace. Tim and Chris B

Um, and so, Roger and Marion, father and mother to Darrell were second father and mother to me, as a child, and so always welcomed into their home, whatever time, day or night. I wake up early, so I would be over there, and Darrell was still sleeping, but Marion would answer the door, and then get Darrell up. He would say he did not want to get out ot bed yet, but she would say: "Your friend it here! You get out of bed!" He would come out to breakfast all sleepy and groggy, and Marion would serve Captian Crunch cereal with milk -- 'cause that's what moms would do way back when. Eventually, Darrell would wake up and we play games and do sports all day -- until one of the moms said: "you are too old to play baseball in the backyard." (She was worried about the windows and baseballs banging into the house). Anywhichway, for those who know about Darrell, and know about the essence or the guy, I will tell this one. During a high school football game, i had a broken collarbone, and the best thing they could figure out fror me was to stand on the other side of the field and hold the down markers, so I did that. And they threw a pass to Darrell. He could not get to it, 'cause it was off target and two defenders. So, he just bopped it up to the air with his left hand. Still could not get to it, so he just bopped it up again, but this time directing it to his right hand. The other two guys got tangled up and fell down. So Darell caught in one hand, and just stood there. If you get what, I'm sayin' he was totally calm and just gonna catch the ball. I heard the coach on the other side or the field say' "Well if they're gonna play like that. we might as well just go home." And so that was our first introduction to community and high school politics, ('cause he didn't always get to be a starter) -- but everyone on the team knew that if you found someone who could throw it up in the air -- well Darrell would find a way to catch it.

Darrell was a man of God. His faith was in his savior Jesus Christ. Darrell was a real good friend to me and I am blessed to have known him and called him my friend. I went through heavy tradgity in my life a few short years ago. Darrell was there for me the entire time. He called me regularly and lifted me up with encouragement that few other could or would. He quoted scripture and gave me words that lifted me up to get through my many days of grief. I will never forget the blessing I received from him being in my life during my darkest days. He put others first even though he had great struggles physically of his own. Darrell was the man in Christ I long to be. I was blessed to call him my friend and brother in Christ . Darrell’s had big concerns for his friends and relatives who didn’t know Christ as their personal savior. He prayed for Them continually. Darrell message to everyone would be to make sure you place your full faith and trust in Jesus and invite him into your life to be your Lord and savior. Thanks you Darrell for the privilege of knowing you in this world and I look forward to our soon reunion in Heaven one day soon. As Darrell would Memorial service is planned for March 12 from 1-3 at River Heights Vineyard church in Inver Grove Heights Say “ Don’t you a worry about a thing”Jesus has us his hands

Darrell was known as "Reverend Baseball" to some of us because of his strong interests in his faith and baseball. He was almost always willing to get together for something fun - especially if that something included food. :-) Reverend Baseball was very popular. A few years ago when he was in the hospital, I went to visit him and they had to bring in extra chairs for the 8 people who were there to visit him. He will be greatly missed, although I am sure he is warmly received into his new mansion in heaven.
