Just heard about Danny. Albeit several years after the fact. He will be missed. Many many miles and memorable bridge of the gods rides with Danny. Always there and helpful. He taught me how to drive a stick shift, I called him panicked after getting a new job parking cars. I started the next day. “You dork” he replied …and had me come over that same evening to take years off the life of the clutch in his car. Where ever you are, may the miles flow …may the hills be effortless, and the rain warm. Will miss you.

Danny was one of the first people I met when I retuned to Portland in '90 and got sucked into the bike racing scene. I had no friends and no idea what bike racing was...but I was running a team- Ciclo- and Danny was there to be my best friend, confidant, and advisor. He was such an optimistic, positive and funny person! He taught me riding etiquette, cool style, crit racing and most of all, life lessons. I felt safe sharing thoughts and feelings with him that I would never share w anyone else. We drifted apart in later years but the support he gave me has remained my foundation. I miss him but mostly I am so happy to have had him in my life.

This one is hard to write. Danny came into our lives via my brother Gordie Cumming and cycling. In the early days the team would stay at our house if they came to Southern California. When I would travel to Portland back in the 1990s to visit my family we would always visit with Danny or be watch everyone ride at PIR. Over the years Danny, Gordie and others would plan cycling trips to SoCal to get away from the PNW weather. Bryan would spend days driving various routes and map rides for anyone who came. Most evenings would be spent on the back or front porch listening the stories of the days ride and so many other conversations. A few of my best memories of Danny are the Salem race in about 1993/94. We had (myself and our son Jacob) were cheering for the team individually. About halfway through the race Jacob said his first words - the first words were not mom or dad - they were GO DANNY! and Danny heard him. It was a memory we all shared for years. Another great memory was sitting on the front porch of our property back in the Canyon in Agoura Hills sitting under century old oak trees and sharing many stories of life. When we moved to Portland 6 1/2 years ago - Danny and Lisa were some of the first people to reconnect with. When we bought our house - we realized we were only 5 blocks from each other. You are missed, Danny - your smile, your infectious laugh, and your love for life and people was infectious.

I'm late to this as I just heard the news about Danny passing. I've fallen out of the cycling world a bit and from many of my friends from it. But even this late I wanted to post about Danny. I met him through our our mutual team and even though our personalities had little in common, I was immediately drawn to Danny. His positive outlook, encouraging nature and fount of interesting stories made him impossible not to want to be around. I remember running into him at a pub during an after beer ride and just sitting and talking to him...for hours. He was just the kind of guy you didn't want to leave the company of. I'm really sorry I missed the memorials gatherings and ride. I'm just now starting to cycle some again after a long break from it and the memories of Danny will be a constant source of encouragement. He will be missed.

I was intensely saddened by the news of Danny. Reluctant to write this. Started many times and then the flood of tears and I would stop. For Danny and me, you have to go back to the Ciclo days. Me the scruffy messenger-type. Danny ever graciously tending to whatever manner of mechanical I had brought in that day. Danny gave me my first pair of riding shorts. He helped me establish an new relationship with the bike and changed the trajectory of my life. We had gotten out of touch over the years, but I ran into him on the bike not long ago and it was as if no time had passed. It was a warm exchange, laughter, of course - that infectious smile. I am grateful for this encounter. Danny was an extremely genuine person with such amazing energy. I will miss him dearly. My deepest sympathy to his family. My thoughts are with you.
