Daniel Friedrich Behn, Dr.
October 20th, 1974 - July 16th, 2022
October 20th, 1974 - July 16th, 2022
It was with deep sadness that we learnt that Daniel F. Behn passed away on 16 July 2022 in London at the far too early age of 47. Warm, generous, and intellecutally curious and active he was a dear friend, colleague, and scholarly leader to many.
This page is for you all, to share your memories and words of support. We encourage you to share memories and photos of moments lived with Daniel.
Please find also an obituary by two of Daniel's colleagues here: https://bit.ly/Daniel-Behn-Vale
An academic seminar in honour of Daniel is being planned for later in the year.

It would be Daniel’s birthday today. Happy 50th birthday, Daniel!

It is one year Daniel is no longer around. Many things have happened, in Oslo and elsewhere, and I am sure he would be happy to chat about them, emphatically, for an hour or more. He is greatly missed.

Today is Runar's PhD defence in Oslo, where Daniel would have been sitting in the panel of supervisors. While Runar is currently answering the Committee's questions, and is doing great, some thought of analogy comes to mind (as Daniel's own supervisor, Thomas Wälde, was no longer around at his defence). Wishing Runar all good on this great day! https://www.jus.uio.no/ior/english/research/news-and-events/events/disputations/hilleren-lie-runar.html

This is such a sensitive situation. I have been trying to get hold of Daniel’s next of kin for nearly a year without any success as I have possession of his car. If you are Daniel’s next of kin or know who they are, please put me in touch. I only knew Daniel briefly and he seemed a very nice and reliable person. I am sorry for your loss.

"We dedicate this paper to our collaborator, colleague and friend, Dr Daniel Behn. His passion, integrity and boundless curiosity shaped this work and will remain with us. He had so much more to contribute." It's June 11, 2017, 12am in Oslo, we sit in Østbanehallen with Laura and Daniel, drinking the midday coffee, happy to send Daniel off to Liverpool for a job interview. In some few day, we were incredibly happy it worked out and he soon had another place to move from Oslo.
