Dale J Kwarta

July 25th, 1950 - May 25th, 2020

July 25th, 1950 - May 25th, 2020

Dale Kwarta, age 69 of Glen Ellyn. Beloved husband of Ruth Kwarta, nee Heerdt; loving father of Tara (Bill Sanseverino) Kwarta, and Stacy (Cory) Price; devoted grandfather of Anthony Rossow, Chance and Gabriel Price; dear son of the late Harry E. Kwarta and the late Lois M. Kwarta, nee Aspel, and son-in-law of the late Jacob Heerdt Jr. and the late Ruth Heerdt, nee Fokkens; fond brother of Paul (Kathryn) Kwarta, Gerald (Darlene) Kwarta, and David (Patricia) Kwarta, and brother-in-law of Sharilyn (Kenneth) Frieling, Randall (Susan) Heerdt, Lynette (James) Boerkoel, Jeffrey (Brenda) Heerdt, and the late Jacob (Annette) Heerdt III; uncle, great-uncle, and great-great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. Dale was a passionate amateur radio enthusiast for over 40, a founder of the WAFAR radio club, and an active member of WCRA, where he was known by his callsign NJ9E since 1984, and was a licensed amateur radio instructor for the last 5 years; Dale was a fan of all things technology and music, which also fed his love of playing the organ, and ballroom dancing. Private service was held on Saturday, May 30th, at 11 AM at Knollcrest Funeral Home 1500 S. Meyers. Rd, Lombard, IL 60148 (3 blks. S. of Roosevelt). Interment private. Dale was cremated, so his family will scatter the ashes along Siesta Key in the Gulf of Mexico, as he so desired. Memorials to American Cancer Society, 1801 S. Meyers Rd. Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181, are appreciated. Dale had a rare, aggressive lung cancer that is experienced by only 4-5% (non-smokers!) that has no cure, which is why we would like donations to go to the American Cancer Society, so they can find a cure for this horrible disease.

At one point, Dale was depressed and was sad he did not leave a mark on this earth....or made a difference because he lived. I assured him he touched more lives than he realized. As an Amateur Radio Operator, he was always ready to help in natural disasters, such as the Plainfield tornado, where he volunteered for 40 hours helping with communications for the gas & tire truck to fix police cars, firetrucks, etc.; he sat at a nurses station in Hinsdale hospital on Mother's Day, when the telephone building caught fire & phones were not available for calling doctors to return to the hospital, or to call from one floor to the next; we helped with the flood of Elmhurst, many runs and parades, & participated in many drills for the OEM, to prepare for natural disasters. He was also a licensed teacher for Amateur Radio, and taught many people the electronics needed to become an amateur radio operator. He went above & beyond the call of duty to get them feeling comfortable on the radio as well as tutored on a one-to-one basis in-between classes. He truly promoted Amateur Radio!

My fondest memory is hearing the words. "I love you, Babe" which were the last words he said, before slipping into a coma.....
