Cynthia Marie Phelps passed away on July 3, 2020 in Detroit, Michigan after a brief battle with liver and kidney disease.  Cindy is survived by her sister Jennifer (Robert) Bauer; her best friend Michelle LaPorte, her grandparents Edmund and Cynthia Thompson; and also survived by aunts, uncles, niece (Katy), nephew (Warren) and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her mother Kathleen Phelps.

Cindy was born on December 19, 1975 in Parma, Ohio.  She was baptized into the Christian faith in Ohio, before moving to Michigan.  Cindy and her sister, Jennifer grew up in Rochester Hills, MI. She was an avid muscian, and played the flute and trombone in several ensembles while attending Rochester High school.  After gradutating in 1993, she went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Walsh College.

Family and friends had  many fond memories of Cindy.  She is remembered for her strong work ethic, she would always be there whenever you needed her.  She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.  She was able to have one last vacation in Florida and the Bahamas in the Spring of 2019 and was able to spend some time with her grandparents. Cindy had a love for people and numbers, while being a server she was able to make long lasting relationships with her customers. She also found her passion in preparing taxes and that was her profession these past few years.

Jennifer's favorite thing about her sister is the way that Cindy always gave herself fully to her family. Her nephew (Warren) and niece (Katy)  always looked forward to their time with her.  She was well known for arriving with presents and her willingness to play the games the fun aunt plays.  She attended school events, dinners, holiday celebrations, afternoons at the playground, and family vacations.  Cindy did more then show up, she even participated in her neice and nephew's school (Fox Elementary) events and would always dress in the school mascot costume as the Fox.  Cindy felt most at home on the shores of the Rhode Island coast.  She was a true beach lover.  She spent her summers as a child and adult among family in Narragansett.  Her family will miss her this summer and always.

It's hard to believe that Cindy is gone but we know that she is finally at peace now and will continue to watch over all of us.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday August 2, 2020 at Lake St.Clair Metropark in the Surfside Picnic Shelter. We will have a short service at 12pm, where we are inviting friends and family to come up and share any memories that you have with Cindy and then we will be serving lunch, via a food truck, from 1pm-3pm.

Due to these unprecendented times we will need RSVP's to ensure that we are adhering to the governors orders.  This celebration will be held outside.

It’s taken me awhile to gather my thoughts. I remember Cindy when she was born. She was beautiful and her Mom, my cousin Kathy was so proud to be her Mom. Cindy was a bubbly person all her life in spite of challenges and heartache she never lost her joy fullness. She was thoughtful and introspective and she cared deeply about others. We didn’t live close enough to be in each other’s lives day to day but we always cherished the family vacations in Rhode Island. A special place for our whole family. Cindy was always ready for a walk on the beach or an ice cream. It will be bittersweet to be there without her. I feel certain that she is with her Mom Kathy and my sister Marybeth and Nana and Grandpa and Beulah and Donna. What a wonderful party that will be.

I worked with Cindy at Liberty Tax Office. I cannot express how our customers loved Cindy and how shocked they are at her death. She seems to step out of the office just for a moment and will be back... Cindy was always a very responsible, hardworking person. Everyone loved her for her kind heart and sense of humor. She generously gave her hugs and smiles to me and my daughter. We remember her ...

Cindy was a good friend. I met her a few years ago - my parents loved her to pieces and actually wanted her to be my date at my sisters wedding. Always so much fun. Last time we physically saw each other was at Peacefest. You will be missed!

Cindy and my mom have worked together so I knew Cindy enough to say that her energy and positive spirit were absolutely contagious. She was a selfless person always trying to help with great deal of enthusiasm everyone around her with nothing in return. She was that ice breaker, glue that could hold any company together. She loved people around her and people loved her. I will always remember dearest Cindy as someone who's laughing and always had a smile on her face. My condolences to the family and close friends. May she find peace at a better place while we will keep a bright memory of Cindy in our hearts.

We have such fond memories of sweet and happy Cindy, especially in Narragansett RI. We shall all miss Cindy. at the beach. This quotation is from a headstone in Ireland: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal." Our thoughts and love to Jen, Michelle and all the family. Cindy meant a lot to us.
