Loved Ones

Cornel Lucian Miclea passed away on January 13th, 2021 in Chicago, IL.

Cornel was born June 18th, 1956 in Arad, Romania to father Octavian and mother Floarea.  He immigrated to the United States in 1975 where he established himself in the fields of engineering and manufacturing until he founded the CLM Engineering Co in 1987.  Over the years, Cornel designed innovations and supported businesses across many industries, including in railroads, printing presses, cell phones, and most recently, medical equipment and instrument design.

Though he slowed his business endevours in recent years in order to focus on his grandkids, he was always of the mind that he would never retire.  A new opportunity to find an engineering solution to any challenge was always on his mind and kept him energized through life. Though cut far too short, they are qualities that were already shining through in his grandkids, Ryan and Analise, during any one of their many trips to tinker with "Bunu" in his workshop.

Cornel impacted many lives through not only business and family, but also his decades of dedication to youth coaching in soccer in the Lake County, IL area.  Over the years, he coached within Lindenhurst youth soccer, Warren United club program, Chicago Kickers, as well as being the women's varisty soccer coach at Warren High School in the late 1990s.

Cornel is survived by his wife Nora; sons Mike and Matt; grandchildren Ryan and Analise; and brother and sisters, Radu, Cornelia, Rodica, and Maria.

Due to these unprecedented times amid the pandemic, the family will be holding a private service this Wednesday, January 20th.  In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage everyone to share memories, tributes, pictures or videos on this memorial website.  We will keep this site open for a few weeks and plan to use these memories to find a way to pay tribute to Cornel in the coming months with his family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. It was such an honor to know such lovely and kind man. Cornel was a joy to have conversation with as he always reminded me of my father who had been gone since 09 and my father and i too were soccer players. Cornel was particular about his haircuts, and i was always so humbled that he would come to see me for his haircuts. :) i will miss hearing about his wonderful life and the places he would travel to. He loved his family so much. Thank you sir always for your kindness and joyful presense you brought to this world. Your friend, Chrystina

Dear Norica, accept my ripest sympathy, I was devastated when I found out that Cornel was taken away from your family. He was a great Christian with a lot of good qualities ; always with a pleasant smile on his face. May God give you strength to be able to live your life without him. His loss is going to affect not only your family but a lot of other people that loved him

I had the honor to get to know and play soccer for Cornel as a young man. I don't know if I ever I got the chance to go back and just thank him for his time and dedication he put not only into me but our whole team. And I truly believe this is how he was in every area of his life. I know you left an impression in my life and heart Cornel. Thank you. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Miclea family. Stay well.

I’ve known the Miclea family for quite awhile, as a long time friend of Matt’s. In the early days, I recall there always being a project at the house. And if you were a lucky visitor of Matt’s during one of those projects, Cornel would rope you into one. My project was shed demolition. Cornel found a way to make an impression upon everybody he met - whether through hearty conversation, touring his world class garage or sipping homemade cherry brandy. He is missed.
