Connie Savery
September 29th, 1951 - January 7th, 2022
September 29th, 1951 - January 7th, 2022
Connie Ann (Wood) Savery passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2022 after a long illness. Her husband George was by her side. Connie and George had recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Connie had a remarkable life, overcoming many obstacles. She was born with severe Scoliosis and Spina Bifida at a time when medical care for severe spinal conditions was not very advanced. Connie endured many childhood surgeries and treatments. Her doctors thought she might never walk, would not be able to have children, and would not live a long life. But she proved them wrong, walking until she was in her 40s, having two children, and living to be 70 years old. She set records within the medical community, at one time even being deemed the person to have lived the longest with that level of spinal abnormality. Her incredible determination saw her through many trials in life.
Connie knew from a young age that she wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and make custom home interiors. That became her lifelong career, starting out in her mother's business as a teenager then eventually having her own business where her creativity and exacting attention to detail could thrive. She was passionate about her work.
One of her last wishes was to celebrate her fiftieth wedding anniversary on November 6, 2021, and she did, with all her family around her. Her other wish was that her body be donated to science, so the family arranged for her to be donated to the UCSD Medical School. Her body will be studied to further the medical community's knowledge of complex spinal conditions.
What we remember most about Connie is her love for family, her generosity of spirit, her fierce work ethic, her creativity, and her great love for animals.
We would be grateful if friends and family would post their memories of Connie on this page, and please share pictures as well!

I just found out that this wonderful person and friend passed away. At the age of 26 I had to have an emergency operation but being a single mom I had no one to care for my daughter. I had just met Connie when our daughters were graduating kindergarten. She and her husband George stepped up to the plate and took my daughter under their wings. That started a wonderful friendship. Connie worked hard sewing pillows, drapes, and headboards to name a few and I would stay up with her while our daughters played. We talked about any thing and everything under the sun. She had a great sense of humor. Physically I don't think I could be as strong as she was. She managed to do whatever she wanted. I was very inspired by how she over came obstacles. Like she was not ever to get pregnant. She told me she wasn't having it. She literally had to search out a doctor to help with her pregnancy and she found one. First child was a little girl named Krista. Connie showed me the xray of her wrapped around her spine. INCREDIBLE! Second child was a son who only weighed 2lbs when born. Eric was just another miracle child to say the least. Connie was a kind, warm, and caring soul and she will be missed. Though she and I drifted in time I never forgot her and my daughters Kim and Shandell still have great memories. To her husband George. You were a wonderful husband and always there for Connie no matter what. I know you are gonna miss her alot so all I can offer are prayers to help you get through this time. I'm so sorry for not knowing of her passing. The girls and I live in Pocatello, Idaho and we wished we could have been with you. email me any time if you would like. newheart1917@gmail.com Libbie

Connie was a remarkable woman, she is one of the 2 people that I most admired. For all she has overcome and still managed to make not only her life better but your life better too. I can't begin to tell you how much she means to me there just isn't enough space here. I will tell you in a large part I am who I am because of her. The attention to detail that we put into our work all came from Connie. There wasn't any way to tell Connie that something can not be done, weather it was a window treatment or making a deadline, she would work on it till she figured it out. I remember a designer brought in a drawing of a treatment that was never made before and Connie worked and worked on it until an actual treatment matched that drawing. I have never seen Connie give up on anything. She always found a way to make it work. She was the same way with her animals, she never quit them she never quit me though I'm sure I didn't make it easy on her from time to time. I realize now all the pushing she did to me was because she saw a little if herself in me and knew I could handle it. Now I push myself just as hard as she pushed herself. I am truly honored and gifted for all that she gave me. She will be missed everyday, I will not quit, I will be as strong if not stronger for knowing her. I love you Connie enjoy the other side we shall meet again.

I am deeply sadden by the news of Connie's passing. It has warmed my heart to read the lovely tributes on this site. She was a remarkable women... truly one of a kind. I met Connie about 10 years ago when I stopped by her shop in Poway to inquire about getting some cushions made. At the time she was in full throttle as the drape designer and maker for the Nothing Bundt Cakes stores around the country. I was instantly amazed at the quality of those drapes produced with her small team in her little shop in Poway. Those drapes looked like they belonged in a palace. From there she created many pieces for me (and my business) from cushions, window coverings and custom bedspreads. I was always in awe of her creations. Her talent and design skills were simply the best I've ever seen -- everything she produced was a work of art. What a honor and pleasure it was to have known Connie. She put her heart into everything she put her hands on. We often stopped by her shop when my kids were little to see Connie & George and Lance (their giant dog). The dog was bigger than my kids and they got the biggest kick out of that. Lance took up the whole back seat of George's car! We also enjoyed the Humming Birds that often visited the shop for a nibble or a drink! Connie always had a smile on her face and a twinke in her eye. She was full of cheer and goodness and it was always a pleasure to visit with her. My thoughts and prayers are with George and all her family as you grieve the loss of this beautiful soul. It also warms my heart to learn of her final act of kindness with the donation of her body to medical research at UCSD. Connie touched so many lives and made this world a better place.

We met Connie about 29 years ago. She was a beautiful woman with a wonderful spirit, what a inspiration. I’ve just read all the beautiful tributes and feel so honored to have known her. She will be missed but her legend will live on.

Connie was quite a lady and will be missed. She did all of the window treatments in my current house and she and her mom did all of them in my previous house. I always enjoyed going to her studio and chatting with her and George. I am so sorry for your loss, George. Connie was a special lady and will definitely be missed.
