Chung Soon "Rose" Player

Chung Soon “Rose” Player (July 15, 1937 - June 11, 2023) Chung Soon “Rose” Player died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the age of 85. Shin Chung Soon was born in South Korea where she met William Player, who was in the army and stationed there. They married on June 5, 1964 and lived in South Korea, Japan, and in several cities in the U.S. before they settled down in Burlington Township, New Jersey where they lived for most of their lives. Chung Soon loved gardening and took on her American name, Rose, when she emigrated to the U.S. and became a naturalized citizen. In addition to being a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, Rose worked as a seamstress and as an owner of small convenience stores in Philadelphia and South Jersey. She was an amazing cook, catering for numerous Korean events, and as an avid gardener, she grew beautiful flowers, especially rose bushes outdoors and orchids indoors. Everyone who knew Rose knew she would speak her mind, for better or worse. She and William had three children—Liz, Kenny, and Russell—and her heart was forever broken when Kenny died in 1976 at the age of ten. Despite her grief, Rose lived life to the fullest; she loved laughing and making people laugh, and often found herself at the center of attention. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Rose never stopped fighting fiercely for her independence. In 2021, Rose broke both of her hips. Against all odds, she defied doctors’ prognoses, and within a year she was walking without a walker or cane. Rose Player is survived by her daughter Liz, her son Russell, her daughter-in-law Pat, her granddaughter Kaitlyn, her sister-in-law Sandra Player, her cousin Brandon Jarel along with many loving cousins and extended family.
