Loved Ones

"I don't run to add days to my life, I run to add life to my days".

We sadly announce the passing of our mother, Christa Annemarie Obara, a beloved figure in the field of massage therapy and a cherished member of the global running community. Christa departed this life peacefully on June 9, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that touched many.

Christa was married to Axel Kenjo Obara, who proceeded her in death in 2016; they had one daughter, Ketura Simone Obara Waiki (Duke).

Christa and former spouse, Gerald Stephen Lolli (decd) had one daughter, Stephanie Lolli Lopez and they remained friends.

Christa was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Jordan, Shavonne, Michelle, Quinn and Madison plus 5 great grandchildren Zhycen, Zhyler, Benci, Quinton and a new great grandbaby on the way! She was their very special Nana and she adored each and every one of them. Brothers, Rudolph Lenzkes and Herbert Lenzkes (decd); many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved cat Lele.

Christa will be remembered for her dedication to her massage clients*friends and a healing touch that helped so many throughout her 40+ years as Massage Therapist.  Christa was one of the "official" massage therapists for the Honolulu Marathon for many years and worked with the invited runners who came from around the world to run in the Honolulu Marathon. She did this year after year and it meant so much to her to be part of this very special event.

It was in the realm of running that Christa found not only a passion but a way of life. Embracing the sport in the early 1970s, she embarked on a journey that spanned five decades. She competed in countless Marathons, Triathlons, Biathlons - anything that included running, biking and swimming. She was a member of many running clubs.  She was a fierce competitor and most often placed in her age group and this continued well into her 70's!  The friends and connections she made during her running career were friends from Hawaii, the mainland and all over the world. She forged connections that transcended borders and endured through the years.

Christa Annemarie Obara will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to healing, her relentless pursuit of excellence, and her boundless love for her family and friends. Though she may have crossed the finish line of this life, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

We will miss you mom, your love, your joy, your laughter, your sense of humor and your bright smile.  A Hui Hou, until we meet again....

The Imua One Blade Canoe Ministry are forever a part of your Ohana. As we were blessed to transport your Mom’s earthly remains, almost “on Eagles’ Wings” to her final resting place alongside her husband Axel, the view of that magnificent rainbow signalled God’s Peace and Comfort upon them both, and to us, that He definitely has them in the palm of His hands. My dad, Owen Iha, ran with Christa in the late 70’s and through the 80’s. I was 11 years old when I met her. She inspired me with her athleticism as a woman runner and her faithfulness as a dear friend to my dad. She never missed his birthday, always calling to wish him well. I’ll never forget seeing her run and the joy it brought to her. I always wanted to be like her and the other fast women runners that I saw running with my dad. I just turned 57 and I love running. Forever grateful for the impact that Christa made on my life. Aloha! Run with the angels now! Roxanne Campbell

Christa brought joy, light and positivity to our lives. As a part of the running community, I was inspired by her speed and perseverance as her name was consistently announced in post-race ceremonies. What impressed me most was her humility as a competitor and a kind, gracious human being. I feel blessed to have known Christa, and benefitted from her healing touch as well. Rest in aloha, Christa. <3

What is your favorite memory shared with Christa?

I recently saw Christa's obituary and was very saddened to hear of her passing. Met Christa many years ago through a group of running friends that ran daily at Ala Moana Beach Park after work. She was such a vibrant and friendly person and she always made running in her company so much fun. I was always impressed by how well she could run distances with such grace and ease. Christa was such a good runner that she definitely helped improve my running abilities as well. While Christa was not always able to run at Ala Moana those of us who knew her always looked forward to the days that she was there to run with. She will be sorely missed and always remembered fondly. My Sincerest Sympathies go out to her family and friends. Me Ke Aloha Christa

How did you meet Christa?
