Loved Ones

Charles H. Thompson II passed away January 20, 2021. He was surrounded by his children, and passed peacefully. We shared stories, tears, and laughs. He said he felt blessed with his life experiences.  Thank you to everyone who was a part of his life journey. He was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer two months prior to his passing. He asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider a making donation to the American Cancer Society and/or to St. Jude's.

"You know you were born to be an Explorer when you discover that your mothers name is misspelled on your own birth certificate. I was always blessed with the ability to overcome obstacles so long as I turned to the Lord for help and guidance.

I was a retired Analyst from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. I was lucky with my career and learned a lot from a lot of good people, and to all of you, I want to say thank you. Retirement is different for everybody, but for me it meant I got to spend more time with the ones I love the most and for me that is my children. I got to sleep in more and wake up without an alarm clock, devote more times to my favorite charities, and spend more time with my favorite subjects.

Growing up, I changed schools 23 times and attended 17 schools in 9 states, mostly East Coast from Florida to Connecticut. In 1976, I went to live with my older brother in Midlotian, VA and graduated from Clover Hill High School, Class of 77. I had many good friends in many locations over the years and often times had to leave without ever saying goodbye and with very little notice. They have not been forgotten.

I was married for 13 years and am the proud father of 3 children: Jennifer, Shannon, and David.

Cancer was one of the obstacles I've had to overcome in my life and I hope that anyone reading this never will have to experience it.

I liked to travel. My favorite vacation spots were the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Las Vegas. I've been going to OBX since 1976 and have returned every year since. I love Las Vegas. Took my first trip back in 1998.

A trip I've always wanted to take since I was a child was to Israel. My visit to Israel [in 2012] was like walking through history. I was looking forward to completing my Archaeoligical classes through Hebrew University so that I could participate with some of the dig sites with a group known as The Friends of Israel.

The most challenging years of my life are parallelled with some of the best years of my life. I guess they're all buried together. Don't worry about me, I believe Death is a new beginning and a new adventure."  --- Charles Thompson

Last words: "I am ready to get out of this cocoon."

Resting Place

I wish to be scattered in the Outer Banks where my fondest memories took place.

I played poker with Skip every month for several decades until several years ago. He was always difficult to bluff or beat in a poker hand. Skip always had interesting opinions on financial, local, national, or world events. No matter what life threw at him, he always had an upbeat and positive attitude. We miss you.
