Charles Pollock
June 16th, 1953 - February 9th, 2022
June 16th, 1953 - February 9th, 2022
A kind, caring and talented husband, father and grandfather who could throw a touchdown, riff on the guitar, or impress a room full of tech executives, Charles H. Pollock (Chuck) passed away on February 9, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Akron, OH, on June 16, 1953, he lived abroad at an early age and was able to enjoy traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East while his father was stationed in Turkey. He later shone as a star athlete at Lewiston Porter High School in Youngstown, NY and went on to play football at Marshall University. Despite his athletic commitments he found the time to prioritize friendships and developed many lifelong bonds.
In addition to his football prowess, Charles was a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He enjoyed music of all kinds — particularly live music — and shared that passion throughout his life. His love of music led him to meet his wife of nearly 45 years, Karen, in Niagara Falls. They went on to start a beautiful family and live in California followed by retirement in Peoria, AZ.
Charles’ many talents also lent themselves to the high-tech world of photonics, and his logic, positivity, and natural humility (and humor) allowed him to achieve impressive success as a businessman. His career also gave him the chance to travel the world and immerse himself in different cultures and experiences. No matter how busy life got, he was always present and reliable for the people in his life, there for a good laugh, spirited debate, or timely guidance.
The ocean awed him, and he appreciated its inherent beauty as well as its vastness and diversity of life. Vacations spent near a beach in Hawaii or Cabo made for magical memories. He also appreciated the challenging nature of golf and played numerous courses with friends.
As a father and a husband, Charles was open, honest, patient and loving. His son was his best friend and confident, his daughter became a pretty good debater; he really enjoyed that she could hold her own. He was a father his children were particularly proud of, he taught them how to love, laugh and live with honor and integrity — lessons they will never forget.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents John and Eleanor Pollock.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen; daughter Jodi (Richard); son Eric (Rosette); brothers John (Deb) and Bill; sister Heather (Don); grandchildren Lance (CJ), Hayley (Jake), Taylor and Drew; along with many nieces and nephews.
Charles set the bar for a remarkable life. His impeccable character and huge heart will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to know him. In the words of Thomas Campbell, “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”

As with anyone who knew him, I am heartbroken by this loss. Chuck was a mentor to me, and I owe him an incalculable debt for paving the way for my career in precision optics starting at Newport Corporation. He was a tireless teacher and collaborator; a gentleman of deep integrity. My sincerest condolences to his family during this difficult time.

So sorry to read this. I knew Chuck in high school and college - NCCC when he formed a band with Bill Hopkins and Jim(?) called New River. Very talented indeed, sports, the arts and as a human being. He and I were also in few art classes at NCCC. As friendly and good natured a person as you would ever hope to meet. I have many great memories of times with Chuck. God bless.
