Charles Marion Nelson

Charles Marion Nelson, age 90, of La Verne, CA, passed away Feb 14, 2023 from heart failure. Charles was born the youngest of two boys, on Jan 16, 1933 to Harley and Beulah Nelson in Claremont, CA. He attended Pomona High School, graduating in 1950. Charles worked as an Injection Mold Maker for over 70 years. He continued doing the work that he loved and sharing his skills and knowledge through October, 2022. Charles met the love of his life, Bette Lou Steffler, at the 4th of July parade in Ontario in 1949. They were married April 29, 1951. Charles & Bette were blessed with six children and built a home for their growing family in the Pomona Valley. Charles was an avid racing fan throughout his life. He and Bette enjoyed racing cars for many years. Over the course of their marriage, they owned several MG’s, a 1964 Porsche 356, a 1953 Moretti 750 GS and a 2001 BMW Z3. Charles was preceded by Bette in death on April 1, 2020 just shy of their 69th anniversary. He is survived by his brother Conrad Nelson, his six children: Rand Philip, Marty Allen, Jeffrey Charles, Timothy Edward, Janet Elizabeth (Palmer) and Mary Elizabeth (Ellie), 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Memorial Services will be held at Todd’s Memorial Chapel 570 North Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA. 91767. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 2nd from 5:00 – 8:00. Funeral will be on Friday, March 3rd at 10:00 am followed by internment at Oak Park Cemetery in Claremont. There will be a reception following internment at Temple Beth Israel in Pomona.
