Forever in Our Hearts.
FIRST INNING
Charles Jr.,” June”, was born June 1, 1946 to Charles Sr. and Lucille Wiley Logan in Summerville, SC. He was the tenth of 12 children born to this union.
FIRST BASE
Charles attended schools in Dorchester County, graduating from Alston High School in 1964. During his high school years, he was a member of the marching band, playing the tuba.
In addition to bird hunting, baseball was his favorite pastime - even to the point of riding his bike to Jedburg to get a baseball glove.
SECOND BASE
The day after graduating from high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He served for many years, earning a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Drill Sergeant. Most under Charles’ direction described him as strict, disciplined, and one who deserved respect and admiration.
Charles married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1968. They rode off in the sunset in his 1962 Chevy Impala - white with red stripe. Over the years, the tender bond between them only grew stronger with Christ at the helm. When you saw one, you saw the other.
THIRD BASE
The Logan family expanded in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the birth of two sons, Charles III and Eric. He loved his family and devoted his life to them – instilling the values of God-first, hard work, dedication, persistence, and determination.
Charles served as a South Carolina State Trooper, then explored the highways as a long-distance truck driver. He retired from the Naval Weapons Station in 2007. He was also an entrepreneur, budding electrician, and author. He owned and operated the Logan Transit Express – a bus company servicing Walterboro and the surrounding area. Additionally, he pursued electrical knowledge from Varnville Technical College. Later he published a book, Just Add Sugar, which gave relationship advice for married couples.
Charles came into the full knowledge of Christ, accepting Him as Lord and Savior. He was baptized, along with his wife, in the early 1980s. In 1989, he yielded to God’s call, entering ministry to spread the Word and love of God. He was a dedicated member of Baum Temple AME, later joining Brownsville Community Church of God. He earned an associate degree in Bible Studies from the Omega Bible College in Charleston, SC.
HOMERUN
Charles continued in his calling as a Choir director for Baum Temple Men's and Sanctuary choirs, and taught Sunday School classes at Brownsville Church of God.
