Coach Hayes! I truly first met Coach in High School. I had made some not so great decisions at my high school and Coach welcomed into Welsh High to give me a second chance. My father, a great friend of Coach, spent the weekend before my first Monday at Welsh High explaining The Coach Hayes "discipline tactics". That Monday morning I walked into his office with my knees buckled and teeth chattering hard they were about to crack. Coach looked and me with those piercing Coach Hayes eyes and softly said " Kids do not misbehave at Welsh High school, you understand that son?" Now, you go on to class and tell your dad I said hello. Coach giving me that second chance has a lot to do with my success today. The true blessing came years down the road when ol Charlie and I became friends as adults. At that time, it was easy to understand that Charlie just wanted the best out of us and loved nothing more than seeing us do well. No one laughed at a good story like Charlie, many times I watched him laugh till he cried! I was blessed to have Charlie as friend for the last thirty years casino dancing, beer drinking, sports, and above any, the true love he showed my entire family. My heart goes out to the Hayes family. Love you Charlie you were one of kind!

what a great guy. what a great loss to family, friends and community. A very unique person in many ways and all of them good. As we all know he would not want us to prolong the sadness but keep-a-trucking and go on with our lives. If I could write a book of all the experiences we had together, I know it would be a best seller. What a ride we had. God Bless you Charlie Hayes. Armand Castille

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Hayes from 2002-until his retirement. He was always willing to help in anyway possible. He had a way of making everyone he came in contact with comfortable. I would not have made it through my first few years as a sped teacher without him.

Mr. Charlie and I had many wonderful conversations over the years. Some were about sports, some about family, and others just about whatever came to mind. He was a resource that I could rely on in any situation that happened during my short time in Special Education. Mr. Charlie always had candy for me and my students and just seemed to brighten up the day with his smile. He would often tell me when leaving the classroom, "You are doing a great job. I appreciate you." Those words meant everything to me. I will truly miss my friend.

Wow where do I start! Not only was Coach Hayes a great leader for our school but he welcomed us in his home like we were family because we were Corey’s friends! I will never forget how good he made me feel about my love for certain people when it wasn’t necessarily the most popular thing to do. I remember going to prom with my date as an interracial couple and he told us we were the most beautiful couple there! I loved that man for supporting me and always wishing the best for me. Coach Hayes gave me the confidence to live out my dreams as a college football player by building my confidence that I was as good as anyone at McNeese! He played a huge part of my career & accomplishments! I love you Coach Hayes and thank you for loving me just the way I am! God bless you Ms Audrey Casey & my friend Super C!!! Sorry to hear this , the man definitely set the tempo my freshman year. It was our orientation in the auditorium and we were talking when he walked on stage. After 10 minutes of a coach Hayes “speech”, lesson learned. Also, Corey and I observed Coach Hayes working out on his punching bag one day. When asked why coach Hayes replied “I been hearing you (Corey) and Casey claiming y’all can whip my butt, well I’m practicing!” We drove off with white faces and the sweats. I looked at Corey and said “y’all better never say that again!”
