"You're the best time I've ever had." Joan Wilder to Jack Colton - Romancing the Stone
London — Charles Richard “Rick” Ellacott passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at the age of 75.
Rick was born on August 26, 1950, in London and was raised in the nearby village of Delaware. He cherished the freedom and close-knit spirit of small-town life, spending his childhood exploring the countryside, bike riding with friends, and enjoying time with his siblings. He attended technical high school in London, graduating from the combined Refrigerator and Air Conditioning program.
From an early age, Rick developed a deep love for farming and working with cattle. That passion eventually led him west to Saskatchewan, where he continued working on farms and with livestock. In 1982, Rick began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. A lover of history and God’s Word, he eagerly dedicated his life to Jehovah and found great joy in discussing the Bible and speaking publicly on Bible topics. His faith was central to his life and brought comfort and encouragement to many.
In 1984, Rick married the love of his life, Cindy (Altman), and together they built a home in Tisdale. While continuing to work with cattle, Rick also began learning upholstery from Cindy’s parents. Gifted with his hands and an eye for craftsmanship, he became highly skilled at restoring and rebuilding interiors for classic cars. Rick and Cindy were overjoyed to welcome their daughter, Brittany, during this chapter of life.
The family later moved to Saskatoon, where they lived for 22 years. Rick first became a partner in an upholstery shop before eventually operating his own repair business specializing in vintage car interiors. In later years, he worked several driving jobs, something he genuinely enjoyed. He was always up for a road trip or a drive with his beloved dog, Meeko
In 2011, Rick and Cindy moved to Naicam, where Rick was happy to once again be part of a farming community. Living on their acreage brought him great satisfaction as he planted fruit trees, helped maintain the garden, and enjoyed the simple blessings of country life.
Throughout his life he always had a dog. Rick loved them all and grieved them deeply when he lost them.
Following the devastating loss of their home in a house fire in May 2025, Rick and Cindy were deeply grateful for the kindness and support of family. They accepted the offer of Rick’s niece Tanya and Cindy’s oldest brother Kevin and his family to move back to the family farm — the very place they had purchased and moved onto 40 years earlier. It felt, in many ways, like life coming full circle.
In November 2025, Rick suffered multiple heart attacks and was hospitalized. Through determination and hard work, he regained far more mobility than many expected and was eventually transferred from St. Paul’s Hospital to Humboldt for continued care. He treasured the precious time he was able to spend at home with Cindy, supported by home care, during the early months of 2026. Whether at home or in hospital, Rick deeply enjoyed playing crib, talking, and sharing visits with family and friends. Rick and Cindy both recognized those days as a true gift.
On April 16, 2026, after speaking with Cindy before resting for the afternoon, Rick suffered a massive stroke and peacefully never woke again.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 42 years, Cindy; his cherished daughter, Brittany; sisters Barb Chapman, Anne Loukas (Gus), and Cheri Ellacott (Pete); brothers David (Deb) and Joe (Julie); as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, dear friends, and spiritual brothers and sisters.
He will also be lovingly remembered by Cindy’s mother, Linda; brothers-in-law Kevin (Gail), Russel, and Trevor (Aimee); and sister-in-law Tricia.
Rick was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice; his father, Charles; his father-in-law, Fred; nephews, Jeremey, Jeffrey and Bennet; and nieces, Amanda, Melissa and Angelika.
Rick will be lovingly remembered for his deep faith, gentle nature, thoughtful conversations, and enduring love for his family and friends. He had a lifelong curiosity, a passion for learning, and a gift for making others feel heard and valued. His warmth, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, home care workers, family members, and friends who supported Rick, Cindy and Brittany through his health struggles and final months.
