The Children of Charles Bordes
Charles' Relative
Charles Desiré Bordes
July 4th, 1950 - March 1st, 2025
July 4th, 1950 - March 1st, 2025
Charles Desiré Bordes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family, who he cherished above all else. Charlie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on the 4th of July 1950, to Charles Bordes III and Marie Virginie Bordes (Chauvin). He was the third of eight children: Janet B. Stafford, John C. Bordes (Carolyn), Robert P. Bordes, Richard J. Bordes (Gerry), David M. Bordes, Suzanne R. Mangum (Kevin), and Michael C. Bordes (Jennifer). Charlie lived a life defined by devotion—to his loved ones, to his faith, and to the game of baseball, which brought his family together in the best of ways.
Charlie met the love of his life, Jeannie (Cutler) Bordes, in Spokane, Washington at the AAA Spokane Indians Baseball Club where he was playing baseball. Jeannie worked as an administrative assistant to her father, who owned the team. They wed on December 21, 1975 and were looking forward to celebrating their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his seven siblings; his wife, Jeannie; their six children and their spouses: Danielle Moore (Adam), Charlie Bordes (Jodi), Brett Bordes (Stephanie), Greg Bordes (Amber), Lindsay Piche (Nathan), and Kaylee Richoux (Cullen); his Grandkids: Mackenzie (Noah Baumann), Kaeden, Mya, Kael, Drew, Janie, Nellie, Baker, Scarlett, Brooks, Brenley, Nash, Noah, Lennon, Landry, Noxx, Luca, Beaux, Blake, Carter and Rhett; his great grandchildren: Kessley and her sibling expected in July 2025; and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Bordes III, Marie Virginie Bordes (Chauvin); sister-in-laws, Karla Bordes, Sonia Bordes; brother-in-laws, J. C. Stafford, Sam Rosman; and his in-laws William Cutler and Delores Cutler (Cobo).
Charlie was a dignitary at family gatherings. He was known for his vibrant personality, creative nick names, regular phone or video calls, and unwavering support. He never missed the opportunity to use one of his signature phrases, bringing an endearing levity to any situation. Whether he was teaching kids to swing a bat in the backyard, cheering from the bleachers at his grandchildren’s sporting events, or watching the grandkids take their first swings, his passion for family and baseball intertwined seamlessly.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on April 4, 2025, at Praise & Worship Center (2551 N Arizona Ave, Unit 3, Chandler, AZ 85225), followed by refreshments, where friends and family are invited to share stories—and maybe even toss a baseball in his honor.
His love of baseball was second only to the love of his family & God. He lived for the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, kisses from his grandbabies, music filled church services, and the embrace of family and friends. While he may have left life’s playing field, his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I just saw this and I am saddened to learn about Mr. Bordes’ passing. My condolences to his Family (Charlie, Brett, and Greg and all his Family I grew up with) as it hits one year since his death. Mr. Bordes was a good man, good heart, good smile, liked to talk. In terms of baseball, he liked to give advice, but never did it in a condescending or know-it-all way, even though he could have with his professional baseball background. He liked to give encouragement even when you were struggling. He was always in the background ready to help and he didn’t need the spotlight or the accolades or the attention. He is missed and I am sad that I could not say good bye or attend his services. Rest in Peace Mr. Bordes.

Charlie, you will be missed. I was fortunate to meet you in the 90's as my uncle Dan and his boys knew you and your family. I was the one that taught Charlie, Brett, and Greg the "circle game" which I'm sure led to many arm punches around the house and school. At an Applebee's in the late 90s Charlie, Dan, and myself were talking about New Orleans and once I told him a player I looked up to was Tom Dempsey due to his disability. OF COURSE Charlie new him and talked about him that night. Almost a year later through Dan Kowalski, I received a picture in a frame, of Tom Dempsey's record setting kick, signed specifically to me by Tom Dempsey himself. THAT'S the measure of the man Charlie is. I am tearing up just writing this memory. Thank you Charlie, for everything.

Where to begin about Charlie. My kids, when we were lucky enough to see him, called him Uncle Charlie. To me he was "Beaut" or "Buddy" or ... I met Charlie in the 1980's when he worked with my best friend from high school. Having family from N'Awlins, and being a baseball fan, we hit it off instantly. Over the decades, we didn't get to spend as much time together as we would have liked, but when we did get together, in AZ, Cape Cod, or Boston, the good times rolled. Good meals, good golf (well at least the occasional good shot), good ribbing, good stories (?) and good times. When Charley was working for Stanley or Lista, and had a lot of "windshield time" ahead of him, we'd have some long, enjoyable phone conversations. He always wanted to know how my family was doing, as well as filling me in on his. I would presume baseball was his first love. I never got to see him play, but I would have liked to. Sounds like he was "All State" in three states. Jeannie was his true love, along with his ever expanding family. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchild, always sharing stories, pictures, stats, updates, etc. The Bordes Clan has lost its Patriarch, and for them, my heart breaks. He was also quite proud of his Cajun roots, especially their culinary offerings. We'd share pictures and updates of our various meals, and he gave me the equipment so I could have my own crawdad boils on the East Coast. It warms my heart that his last two dinners were Gumbo. The world has lost a shining star, the Bordes Family its Patriarch, and I, along with a great many others, have lost a true friend. I'll see you on the other side, Brother. Craig
