I don't age. I level up.

Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris was a martial arts legend, action film icon, and philanthropist whose journey from a shy, impoverished Oklahoma boy to a cultural phenomenon inspired millions worldwide. Born on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Norris grew up in poverty with an alcoholic father who left after his parents divorced. He described himself as "the shy kid who never excelled at anything in school." When his family moved to Torrance, California, nothing suggested the extraordinary transformation ahead. At age 18, Norris joined the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman. While stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea, a fellow airman nicknamed him "Chuck," and he discovered Tang Soo Do martial arts—a revelation that would define his life. After his honorable discharge in 1962, he opened a martial arts studio and, despite losing his first three tournaments, persevered to become the 1968 World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion, holding the title undefeated for six consecutive years. His students included Steve McQueen, who encouraged him to pursue acting. McQueen's encouragement led to Norris's breakthrough role in 1972 when Bruce Lee cast him in Way of the Dragon, featuring their legendary Colosseum fight scene. Throughout the 1980s, Norris became a major action star with films including Missing in Action and The Delta Force. From 1993 to 2001, he starred in Walker, Texas Ranger, which introduced him to new generations and cemented his place in popular culture. In 1990, Norris founded Kickstart Kids, a nonprofit teaching martial arts to middle school students to build character and steer them away from drugs and gangs. The program impacted over 100,000 young lives. In 2005, he became an internet sensation when "Chuck Norris Facts" emerged, which he embraced with characteristic humor. Norris remained active in martial arts training until his final days, posting a birthday video on March 10, 2026, showing him sparring with the caption "I don't age. I level up." He died peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Kauai, Hawaii, at age 86, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of discipline, perseverance, and service to others.

How did Carlos Ray "Chuck" make an impact on your life?

Chuck Norris, though I never met him in person, made a huge impact on my life. That impact was Kickstart Kids. I joined it originally to escape P.E. at school, but instead helped me find my one, true passion which was karate. He truly is a champion.

Dad, you've been the man I looked up to my whole life. Your generosity, your kindness, your courage, your integrity, your strength, your discipline, and your faith in the Lord were just a handful of things I always admired about you. You lived your life with purpose and with love for all people. You were the greatest father God could have ever given me and the finest man I've ever known.
