Carla Jewel Hearn, née Clark, of Madison, MS, passed away on Friday, May 15th, due to complications with breast cancer. She was 60 years old. Jewel emigrated from Salzburg, Austria as a baby through adoption and grew up just outside of Ellisville, MS, with her parents Lewis and Jacqueline Clark and two older brothers. She was dedicated to helping people, and it was reflected in her work as a Deaf educator and an interpreter for the Deaf. She proudly served the Deaf community in Mississippi for over 30 years, and retired from working as an interpreter for the Deaf students of the Madison County School District in 2019. Jewel worked a second job at Amy's Hallmark, where she made several friends with her coworkers. She loved the store and the people she worked with. She took pride in her jobs and always worked hard. Jewel found joy in spending time with her loved ones. One of her greatest passions in life was being a mother for 25 years. Being a mother was her life's dream, and it not only came true, but became her greatest source of pride. Jewel enjoyed several hobbies, including reading, watching movies, baking, cake decorating, crocheting, and scrapbooking. She shared her interests with Briana, and they often worked together on their creative projects. She also highly treasured her friendships and found herself surrounded by people willing to help and support her once she recieved her cancer diagnosis. Jewel is survived by her daughter Briana Hearn, her son-in-law Chad Allgood, Chad's parents Carol and Ted Allgood, her brothers David and Frankie Clark, David's wife Colleen Clark and their adult children, her biological siblings with whom she reconnected, multiple cousins and close family friends. In lieu of flowers, her family is asking for donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that helps spread awareness of the disease, funds research, and aids patients in their fight against breast cancer. She will always be remembered.
