"Libraries are the Fort Knox of words. Check them out. You will be richer with every book you read." --Jane Kirkpatrick, author

Cameron Prow passed peacefully Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Bend, Oregon, after having said goodbyes to her many friends and loved ones. She leaves her son Jamal Finley (Lulu) of Chula Vista, CA, her two grandsons, Tomas and Alec, her sisters Shirley Alt (Matt) and Virginia Petitt (Bill), her nieces Erika Bentley and Koko D’Haem, several cousins, and her long-time friend and companion, Garry Finley.

Cameron was born in Salem, Oregon to Frances and Frank Prow. The oldest of three girls, Cameron attended Salem schools, graduated from South Salem High School, and attended Oregon College of Education before working for the State of Oregon for several years. In 1971, Cameron married Garry Finley. They adopted a son, Jamal, in 1979 and moved to Bend in 1980, where she ran her business, Type-Rite, for many years.

Cameron’s lifelong love of reading turned into a love of poetry and writing. Some of her creative musings have been published by local and regional writing groups, including the Central Oregon Writers Guild, the Farewell Bend Writers Roundtable, the Oregon Poetry Association, and PoetsWest, and shared at many 3rd Thursday Spoken Word events in the Bend/Redmond area. Her contributions to those groups led to many honors and awards.

Cameron also actively contributed to the community by volunteering regularly at a food bank as well as helping to organize many local fairs and festivals.

A celebration of Cameron’s life will be held on April 19, 2025, at 1 pm at the Redmond branch of the Deschutes Public Library.
