"I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." Psalm 121:1-2, 7-8

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Louise Brewer, who peacefully transitioned on November 22, 2024, in Westchester County, New York.

Born on January 18, 1963, to Joe Edwards and Louise “Brenda” Brewer Womack in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Named after her mother, Brenda Louise Brewer was the eldest of five sisters. At the age of three, she moved to New York City with her mother, as part of the Great Northern Migration, and settled in the Bronx.

A curious and avid reader, Brenda found solace in fiction, often escaping into the worlds created by her favorite books. She graduated from Walton High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Hunter College and a Master’s degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz.

Brenda dedicated more than 25 years of her life to the New York City public school system, serving in numerous roles at PS 206 including classroom teacher, librarian, and computer lab specialist. Her love for education and her students was evident in every role she undertook. Even when her health challenges forced her retirement, her passion for teaching and nurturing others never waned.

Brenda did not have biological children, but she was a devoted mother figure to her extended family. She raised Anthony (Jiles) and Aleshia (Womack) as her own, showering them with boundless love and care. Often standing in as “the other mom” to care for Kevin and Kara assisting her sister Felecia (Lisa). Affectionately known as "Auntie," she was adored by her nieces, nephews, and godchildren, who cherished her humor, warmth, and unwavering support.

Brenda also had a deep love for animals and treasured her pets, Kala and Jasper, treating them as members of her family. She enjoyed traveling extensively, exploring destinations across the United States and abroad, including memorable trips to Italy, London, and Caribbean cruises with friends and loved ones.

Diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 12, Brenda faced numerous health challenges, including kidney failure, heart surgery, and limited mobility. Despite these obstacles, her resilience, faith, and gratitude for life inspired everyone she met. Her determination to embrace each day with joy and positivity left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.

Preceded in death by her mother, Louise Womack, and brother, Daniel Brewer, Brenda is survived by her four sisters—Felecia “Lisa” Webb, Jacqueline Brewer, Charlene Wade, and Charlotte Brewer—and her brother, Alvin Shaw. She also leaves behind a loving host of nieces, and nephews, (Courtney Wade, Crystal Wade David Quinn Brewer Danser, Dejanay Veras, Jasmine Brewer, Jayson Brewer, Kevin Thomas Webb, Kara Louise Webb, Kassandra Brewer, Michael Brewer, Shawn Brewer, Markeith Shaw, Sheena Shaw); godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless cherished friends.

A devoted follower of Christ, Brenda Louise Brewer accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Brenda’s unwavering faith, strength, and love for her family and friends will remain an enduring legacy. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.

Ms. Beautiful Brewer was such a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. I worked with her for years and I can say we became from friends to family. She loved my husband Miketo and always called him her "HERO" because he saved her life while trying to swim to a beach from a boat, He also helped her get back up on a banana boat after it was turned over. Those were just some of the fun days we had with her when going on cruises. She love me but loved him more lol! I want Brewer to R.I.P. until we meet again. We Love you!

I met my best friend Brenda in the 7th grade, on the lunch line in Jr High School. We were both shy and quiet We formed a tight friendship from that day on. We both went to the same High School, One time we were ready to leave school at the end of the day, when Brenda realized that someone had stole her coat. It was the winter time , I tried to give her my coat, but she wouldn’t take it. She was more concerned that I would be cold. That’s the kind of friend that Brenda was. She helped me get through high school. When we became women, we continued to keep in touch. She was a smart and intelligent person. I’m going to miss my friend, I loved her so much. I truly believe that my best friend Brenda went straight to heaven. She suffered with her many health problems, but she remained strong and positive. I could go on and on about Brenda, she was my rock, I hope that my sharing of our earlier school days, when we children helps everyone to understand that she was so very special Brenda please RIP you deserve it.

Brenda had a very joyful, loving inner light that made a huge impression on me from the moment I met her at P. S. 206 in East Harlem long, long ago. She made you feel welcome, validated, heard and respected. She was always gracious, kind and her real self. Down-to-earth and genuine. Brenda had grit, emotional intelligence, beauty. Plus a great sense of humor! I remember wishing I was a little girl so I could be in her class, and she could be my favorite teacher. I really, really LOVED the way Brenda laughed out loud! With all her heart and positive vibe just lighting up that beautiful million-dollar smile of hers! 🥰 It made you feel so happy to be around her.... Magical, luminous Brenda, my dear friend and colleague: The Good Lord called you back home, and I rejoice that up there in His kingdom, you don't have any more health issues, doctor's appointments, surgeries, or anything of the kind anymore, my friend! I am sad for us down here, because we won't hear you or see you again in this dimension, until we ourselves make that final journey back to God's kingdom, I F we do His work, and become instruments of PEACE, just like He asked. But, I am tickled pink with glee and anticipation to think that if I "play my cards right," some day I'll get to see you and hug you and my family again, when the Lord says, "Ayala, stop talking so much and get up here, already!!" 🙏🏼💐🙋

When was a time Brenda made you laugh?

Amongst the many times I was at Kara's house with Auntie dutifully watching us, we were going to go walk to Town for some food. Auntie proceeded to not let us leave until the "Ashy knees were lotioned". Auntie was always making sure we didn't leave the house properly dressed, and lotioned. I'll never forget my times with Auntie ❤️ she's forever with us now, everywhere and anywhere.

My sister, Brenda was and will always be an inspiration to me, she held onto her endless hope for a better day, and she refused to let health struggles keep her from living life fully. I have so many cherished memories with Brenda that truly makes my heart smile. We enjoyed nights at the theatre, exploring art exhibits, trying new restaurants, going on road trips and flights near and far to visit the people she loved. I was blessed to share those moments with her. I will deeply miss my sister Brenda, I will never forget her beautiful spirit, I will always remember her strength, joyfulness and love for life.
