Boyd Kelly

Boyd W. Kelly died on Monday February 14 of natural causes after a long illness. He was visited before dying by many family members and friends.

Boyd was born in Jackson Ohio in 1934. His uncles on his father's side were coal miners in West Virginia. His extensive family on his mother's side were hill people. Boyd liked to tell the story of getting one pair of shoes a year. He'd wear them all through the school year, and then go barefoot all Summer.

His family moved to Roseburg Oregon when Boyd was in Junior High, and that's where he met the love of his life, Shirley Saar. He joined the Navy, serving in Japan during the Korean Conflict, and returned to marry Shirley in 1958.

Boyd recieved his degree from U of O and joined the Social Security Administration. He continued working for the Federal Government until retirement. At the time, he was the Acting Director of the Health Care Finance Administration, Region 10.

Boyd was preceded in death by his daughter Kristina, and survived by his wife Shirley, son Michael, and his grandchildren: Alana, Silas, and Felix.
