Bob G Waggoner
November 11th, 1949 - November 22nd, 2017
November 11th, 1949 - November 22nd, 2017
Bob G. Waggoner, 69, of St. Augustine, Fl and Belmont, WV, was born at home to Ralph Wendell and Mavis Nadine Hughes Waggoner on November 11, 1949, their only child. His grandparents were Odbert Ralph & Kathleen Engle Waggoner and Con Otis & Wanda Tharpe Hughes all of Glenville. He is survived by his loving & devoted wife, Sue Fulmer of 47 years and a daughter, Andrea Leigh Myers that arrived in 1978. He is also survived by an uncle Donnie Hughes of Camden and his children Cindy Reep and Cody Hughes and families; an aunt Maisie Somerville of Linn, WV and her children, Larry, Dana & Robbie Somerville and families along with an aunt Sandra Jones of Uhrichsville, OH. Surviving also is our nephew, Andrew Glenn Boley and his wife Michelle of Seneca, PA and our niece, Michelle Weikart of St. Marys, WV and their children Alexa Boley and Austin, Ethan, & Emma Weikart. Also surviving are our step nephews, Dan’l Boley and his wife Tabitha of Franklin, PA and John Boley and his wife Melissa of Waverly, WV and their respective children, Kylynn & Nathaniel and Dakota. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was proceeded in death by an uncle Robert Hughes in WWII, for whom he was named, and an aunt Janice Waggoner. Bob was a graduate of Glenville High School and Glenville State College with a BA in social work, business and history. A Methodist by faith and was a remarkably innovative and successful Director of Community Action. Being an avid golfer, he now has joined the rest of his usual foursome, Bob Fox, Dwight Montgomery, & Alton Skinner and should be teeing off soon. Bob was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2007 and told to lay on the couch till he died. Instead, Bob researched with the lung association as to the best place for treatment. They recommended National Jewish Research Center in Denver, CO. Bob applied and was accepted as a patient after extensive assessments. His outstanding pulmonary fibrosis specialist, Dr. Jeffrey Swigris confirmed that the average prognosis was up to a 5 years survival rate from the date of exposure. His family doctor, Dr. Daniel Buckingham, Oakland, MD, worked in conjunction with Dr. Swigris to provide care and found Bob intellectually stimulating and amazing how he approached death. As a matter of fact, Bob secured a tremendous team of doctors as he continued his battle. His endocrinologist, Dr. Miguel Roura of Jacksonville, Florida and Dr. John Hancox, dermatologist/surgeon of Morgantown, WV. All his doctors made their office calls like old friends and were very compassionate, understanding, creative in their treatment approach, and supportive by being just a phone call away which is a rare experience. Bob defied the odds and exceeded all expectations even on Hospice, however, he finally succumbed after over a 10 year 7 month battle. While returning to Belmont from his last trip to Key West, Florida, Bob was losing the race and succumbed at Orangeburg, SC at the Regional Medical Center assisted by Hospice on November 22, 2017. On November 20th he and Sue had celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. Bob had tried to live to their anniversary and make it home so Sue would not have to travel alone but that was not to be the case. The family and friends wish to extend their thanks & appreciation to The Regional Medical Center, EMT & Hospice of Orangeburg, SC, and Housecalls Hospice of Parkersburg for their outstanding service, compassion and assistance, as well as, the Mid-Ohio Valley Cremation Society. A private service will be held at the Marineland beach at a later date. Bob will long be remembered for his strength, compassion, honesty, devotion, generosity, thoughtfulness, love of others, and zest for living life to its fullest by living each day as if it were his last with no regrets. During his final days he was still thinking of others. He developed a list of things to bring friends including unique fruits to share with the neighborhood kids. His final wish was instead of sending flowers and mourning was that you celebrate his life by making a memory with family & friends as you reflect on the good times. He believed that the highest tribute one could pay to a departed was to keep their memories alive in the hearts of the living.
