Robert Paul Shutt, known as (Bob), was born on April 19th, 1945, to William and Josephine Shutt. He was raised in the seaside town of Hull, Massachusetts with his sister and three brothers. They lived in a big white house at the top of a hill, just a short stroll to the shores of Nantasket Beach. Laughter, sunburns, sand between their toes, trips to Paragon Park and cruising in sailboats were all things growing up Shutt. He attended Hull High. He played football, baseball, basketball and ran track. He was also an active member of the Drama Club and Choir. Bobby had a love for singing and had a great baritone voice. He was well-liked among his peers, known to be unassuming and down-to-earth. He was a thinker and was voted most likely to be a Teacher.

He would walk the beaches of Nantasket, watching the tide roll in, wondering about the meaning of life. He often felt that something was missing, something deeper to life than what he had experienced. He was not sure if God existed, but prayed, "God, if you are out there, can you hear me? What is the meaning of life, and why do we die?" That sincere prayer marked the beginning of a spiritual journey that led him to study the Bible. After graduating from high school, he moved to Florida for a short time with his buddies and got a job as a waiter at the Fontainebleau Hotel. In 1966, Bob moved to Los Angeles, California, and spent some time couch surfing with his friends. In that apartment complex, he met his future wife, Mary Sweeney. Mary recounts that after dating for a while, he looked her in the eyes while in an embrace and said, "I'm going to marry you!"

On March 24th, 1967, Bob and Mary were married. They went to a Justice of the Peace, and he said, "In the name of Jehovah I now pronounce you man and wife." They left, asking, "Who is Jehovah? Are we really married?" Bob asked Mary to check with the clerk to be sure. They settled in Monrovia, CA, where they raised their family of seven children - Bobby, Chris, Cyndi, Jody, Eric, Ginny, and Allison. While working at Vons as a Butcher, the search for something deeper began to take shape through a co-worker named David. Bob noticed something different about David. He did not engage in the workplace antics that his co-workers did. During lunch breaks and quiet conversations, David began to share Bible Truths with Bob using a Bible aid, "The Truth That Leads to Everlasting Life." He continued his Bible Study with David, until he found another Bible teacher closer to home. He finally learned that Jehovah was God's name. Psalms 83:18 "May people know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth." He dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1969, a decision that became the foundation for the rest of his life. From that point on, Bob never looked back. His faith became the core of who he was. He loved to tell people about Jehovah and his hope for the future.

Bob and Mary raised their seven children to love Jehovah and, as Jehovah's Witnesses, instilled in them strong values and faith. He also contributed to the spiritual upbringing of his five grandchildren, seeing them dedicate their lives to Jehovah and volunteering their time to help others learn about the Bible's teachings. Bob loved the game of golf. He also enjoyed many summers in the pool with his children and grandchildren, teaching them how to swim, as he was a former lifeguard. He loved thrift stores, always searching for unique treasures like a pair of bright red "Ronald McDonald" shoes that he insisted no one touch (he did not need to worry about that). Karaoke with his family was a favorite pastime. Everyone who knew Bob knew that he loved to talk, especially about cuts of meat. He could talk about cuts of meat with such enthusiasm that even a vegetarian might find themselves drawn into the conversation. He had a special touch with animals, often described as an ''Animal Whisperer." Squirrels, feral cats, and Blue Jays trusted him and would eat right from his hand. Bob struggled with many health issues in his later years but was never a complainer. No matter how sick he looked, when asked, he would always say, "I'm ok." In recent weeks, he knew he would ultimately not recover, yet he continued to endure and remain faithful to the end, finding comfort in the promise of the resurrection, based on Jesus Christ's ransom sacrifice. John 5:28- "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Bob was loved by many, and we all can't wait to see him again soon in the promised earthly paradise, just around the corner.
