Beth Wright

October 11th, 1951 - February 9th, 2022

October 11th, 1951 - February 9th, 2022

Elizabeth Wright passed away in San Diego, California on February 9, 2022 after a courageous two-month battle with cancer. Her strong beliefs and love of family and friends inspired her actions throughout her life and to the end. Beth was born Elizabeth Anne Martin on October 11, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts. Beth graduated from New Trier East High School in Winnetka, Illinois in 1969. She attended Wellesley College and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended the Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing where she received her diploma in Nursing. For the next forty years, Beth dedicated herself to the nursing profession as a staff nurse, charge nurse, critical care and intensive care nurse and Emergency Room nurse. Beth served as a US Army Reserve nurse beginning in 1983, and received the Army Commendation Medal in 1986. She was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1992. She served as Hospital Director of Nursing at Vencor Hospital in San Leandro, California from 1996 to 1999. Beth was certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) since 1978 and a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) since 1992. Beth married Thomas Saint in 1974; their two children Sean Thomas Saint and Meaghan Tara Saint live in California. Beth married Donald "Bob" Wright in 1990. They moved to Whidbey Island, Washington, and built a home together where they lived for twenty years, working, gardening, and raising chickens. On Beth's last day of work at Whidbey General Hospital, she wore her Newton Wellesley Nurse's cap and white dress one final time. In 2018, Beth and Bob sold the house and everything in it and moved to a condo on the beach in Mazatlan, Mexico, where they began to enjoy a retirement of leisure, RV travel, and cruising. Beth leaves behind many dear friends from her high school and college days, with whom she remained close for her entire life. She also leaves so many coworkers who remember her as an inspiring mentor and beloved friend. Her yoga practice was an important part of her life for ten years and she cherished her teachers and fellow practitioners. She played classical music on her mother's Steinway for years and continued playing on her electronic piano in Mexico. She had the tiniest waist, the brightest smile, the thickest hair, and the strongest headstand. Beth is survived by her husband Bob, her son Sean and his wife Kathy, her daughter Meaghan and her husband Rann, and her step-daughter Jenny and her husband Brett, her sister Lynne and her husband George, her brother Bill and his wife Sue, and her brother Peter. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Planned Parenthood as Beth was a dedicated supporter.

Beth! We comingled for so many years on a health journey together with yoga, dance and massage. In the meantime, you became a confidant and friend. Oh how I miss your logic steering me toward common sense, keeping me in the real world:) And boy, what poise and itensity you had toward your yoga practice. I remember I asked you, "aren't you tempted to skip your practice today?" You said "we don't have a choice!". When my studio was in trouble during covid, you showed up for me in all ways possible. When we were sad through some tough life challenges, (you know what they were), we comforted, we cried, and we uplifted each other. Your generosity, your intellect, your discipline, your compassion and of course you kept me abreast of current events tee hee....these are only some of the ways we picked each other's brains over the years (our children, music, science, relationships, etc). BUT, I have no doubt you received much less than I in that department lol. All in all, we had FUN! One thing some may not know about you with your serious side; is how darned witty and funny you could be. You have left an imprint on my life and in my heart. I ask myself so many times.... "What would beth tell me"? And I was supposed to be the guru? NOT! You were. I love you, I love you, I love you.

In 2015, Donald had to have emergency open heart surgery. Beth emailed me and asked if I could record my voice leading him through yoga nidra, because he requested that my voice be the one that lead him into surgery as they put him under anesthesia.

When I was 6 months pregnant with Bennett, and I had only known Beth and Donald for a few months. Although they had been coming to the yoga shala since it opened, they only recently ventured into my classes. Knowing that Bo was deployed at the time, Beth gave me her number "just in case I ever needed anything." On a Sunday afternoon I had a yard man come and mow the lawn, and he left the fence open - unbeknownst to me. I let Lola out to potty. I showered. I got out. No Lola. I panicked. We had only recently moved into that home, and I didn't know my streets or my neighbors. I called Beth out of desperation, crying and illogical, and I remember vividly saying "I'm going to have to tell Bo I lost our dog while he was deployed." Beth said, "let's keep talking. We're in the car, and all you need to do is tell me your address." She talked to me the whole drive from Coupeville and kept me calm. They arrived, and we drove around streets I didn't yet know calling out Lola's name until we found her. And then they left with a hug and a smile, hardly aware that they just saving my whole world by simply showing up.

A huge windstorm blew down tree limbs and half of my backyard fence (Bo was deployed, Bennett was 15 months old). Beth and Donald arrived, tools in hand, and spent the afternoon gardening, fixing my fence, and playing together.
