Bernard Bernie Nolan
November 10th, 1959 - July 18th, 2021
November 10th, 1959 - July 18th, 2021
Bernard Michel Nolan, "Bernie" to most, 61, of Templeton, CA, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 18, 2021. Bernie was born on November 10, 1959 to Thomas and Dorothy in Juvisy, France. The family moved to California the next year, where Bernie and his brothers, Edward and Raymond, grew up. After graduating from San Carlos High School in 1977, he went to Canada College in Redwood City. He started a career working in the auto industry at Stevens Creek Honda in 1984, later moving into insurance where he worked for Geico for 20 years, retiring in 2017. In 1984 he met Ianette, and they wed in 1986, going on to have three children, Jessica, Jennifer and Danielle. Despite separating in 1998 they remained loving parents, coming together to cheer on their kids and celebrate holidays and events together. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he mentioned often to anyone he spoke with. He was incredibly proud of his three girls and loved them with all his heart and soul. Bernie became a well-known coach of youth soccer, often leading multiple teams during any given season even after his girls grew out of the league. He played soccer himself for many years, and started a pick-up league, through which he formed some of his longest lasting friendships. He was a passionate and undying fan of both the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers - both clearly evident if you saw his car, his house, his wallet, his phone…He also had a deep love for Ireland and his heritage, something he was very proud of and prominently displayed as well. Bernie could often be found at his "business meetings" with his group of friends, who became like family. Anyone who knew Bernie knew that he was the most loving father, brother, and grandfather a family could ask for. He could make friends with anyone, anywhere, and often did. He left a lasting impact on everyone who he came across, from coworkers to his "extra daughters" to the checker at the grocery store and everyone in between. Bernie was predeceased by his mother Dorothy, father Thomas and brother Raymond. He is survived by his three daughters, Jessica, Jennifer (Jeremy), and Danielle (Lee), his grandchildren - Jansen, Everly and Layton, brother Edward, and ex-wife Ianette. The unexpected loss of Bernie has been devastating and the family appreciates the outpouring of love and support from everyone who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to be used to support youth soccer in Atascadero. Donations can be sent via venmo to @BernieNolanMemorial and funds will be sent to Atascadero Youth Soccer Association in his name. There will be a celebration of life from 1-3pm on Saturday, August 21 st at the Pavilion on the Lake in Atascadero. The family invites anyone who knew Bernie to join them to share stories and celebrate his life.
