Benjamin Cain, Sr
February 27th, 1949 - April 11th, 2023
February 27th, 1949 - April 11th, 2023
Benjamin James Cain Sr., 75, peacefully transitioned to Glory on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 in Los Angeles, California. Our adored husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend – Benjamin was bestowed these many titles and many beloved nicknames (PawPaw, Bim, Bimbo, Big Ben, Gentle Ben, Buddy), each marking the important relationships that enriched his life and ours. The sixth child of the late Julia Mae and Harold Cain, Benjamin’s life began on February 27, 1948 in Rochester, PA. Big Ben filled his time with simple interests but the top three were his family, his Steelers and his music. Married on June 13, 1970 to his love Joycelyn Carolyn Jones, Big Ben always put family first. Together they ensured their three children grew up surrounded by their unconditional love, respect for family and faith in God. Big Ben had a caretaker’s heart that never allowed him to turn away a neighbor, friend or family member in need. In Flint, MI, he was a Deacon for the 12th Street Church of God and an Auxiliary Police Officer, in addition to serving in Vietnam as a DCFN in the Navy and with General Motors, where he worked until his retirement. In Los Angeles, he was a respected member of the Breath for Change ministry. An avid record and music equipment collector, Big Ben could tinker with stereos and play music for hours, a nod to his early days as a DJ playing songs to catch Joycelyn’s attention. Big Ben enjoyed traveling and fishing trips with his brothers. His SuperBowl parties and barbeque ribs were famous on both coasts. He was a jack of all trades, a quiet and thoughtful observer and a master of hilarious quips and insights. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his loving wife Joycelyn Cain; his loving Children Benjamin Jr. (Jamie Cataldo), Stacy Cain, Charles Cain (Kiwana); his Grandchildren Cheyenne, Carolyn, Casey and Charles Jr.; his Siblings Harold Cain, John Cain, Calvin Cain, Joann Jeter (William), and Belinda Cain; Cousin Yvette El Amin; Brother-in-law Albert Jones; his God-sons Ray Willis, Randy Willis and Zach Palmer; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who were all very dear to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Siblings Lee Charles Cain, Diane Cain Clarit and Irene (Niecy) Cain McClellan. May the peace that now blankets Big Ben also comfort his family and friends.
