On May 17, 2023 at 7:05pm, the world dimmed upon the passing of Benjamin Eugene Brookhart at age 45. While heading home from work on Picture Rocks, not far from his home, Ben was struck head-on by another driver who crossed into his lane. He died instantly.

Ben has left behind a multitude of family and friends who are deeply grieving his passing. You see, wherever he went Ben brought joy, wrapped in a giant smile, and a genuine heart to connect with others. If you needed a friend, he would find a way to be there. Ben offered his entire heart in every relationship he had in such a vulnerable and deeply genuine manner that few people can claim to love others so well.

Ben was a man with a deep, abiding faith and his greatest wish was that others could realize the absolute love of God through the salvation that is offered in Jesus Christ. He endeavored to be the hands and feet of Jesus as he often generously poured out his resources to help others. He led two Bible studies locally, and often shared his joy in finding a deep connection and sense of community with those who attended.

After a dedicated service of 20 years as an Arizona State Corrections Officer, Ben spent countless hours serving his local community through his involvement with the Pima County Republican Party. He devoted a significant portion of his time providing classes and presentations on various topics including the U.S. Constitution and American Citizenship. Ben was a strong and determined precinct committeeman and an elected state committeeman. He possessed a deep love for his country.

Ben was born on April 7, 1978 in Davenport, Iowa to James E. Brookhart and Pamela J. Brookhart. After moving to Tucson, Arizona as a child, Ben graduated with honors from Marana High School and then graduated with an Associate’s Degree at Pima Community College. Afterward, Ben graduated from Arizona’s Correctional Officer Training Academy and honorably served as a Corrections Officer in Arizona for 20 years until his recent retirement.

Ben is survived by his father, James E. Brookhart (DeeDee Brookhart), his sister, Jessie Brookhart-Knost (John Knost), his brother Brent Brookhart, his nephew Grant Knost, his nieces Lexi Knost and Hope Knost, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends. Ben is predeceased by his mother, Pamela J. Brookhart (d. 2006) and is now enjoying a reunion with his greatly missed mother with Jesus in heaven.

A private service will be held with his close family in Memphis, Tennessee. A memorial will follow in Tucson at a later date.

In the weeks prior to his passing, Ben had met with various people to share his vision moving forward. He shared his vision for a war room at the Pima County Republican headquarters, met with the LD17 Freedom Team, discussed a plan to start visiting Pastors across Tucson to share Biblical Citizenship to remind them the Bible is full of politics. He laid the foundation for us to continue in his memory. Our conversations were never short as Ben had so much knowledge to share. Although I only knew Ben for a couple of years, his impact on me will be forever. Recently I awoke one morning no longer afraid to go to heaven as I know I will get to see Ben again.

My life was blessed by knowing Ben. He was what every man should strive to be--kind, committed, noble, Godly. I met him in Biblical Citizenship classes at PCRP HQ. He engaged my husband and I in such a genuine way. It felt as if I'd known him for far longer than I did. In the year we knew each other, we discussed how we'd work together to grow Republican PCs west of the Tucson Mountains. The Monday before his untimely passing, though he was busy setting up a war room at HQ, he gave me the time to discuss what was currently happening at the Legislature--giving me hope and a purpose to continue moving forward. Ben was a treasure. I'm sorry to see him leave this world far too soon, but I know he is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior. My prayers to his family and all who knew him for comfort and peace. He will be greatly missed.

I had the great opportunity to meet and work with Ben after the Covid and during my candidacy. He always wore a purple shirt which connected he and I instantly. I love purple. He was very knowledgeable and such a gentle soul. I learned a lot from him and he will be sorely missed! The Freedom Fighters of Southern Arizona are missing a true Patriot and friend! May his memory be eternal.

You will not find anyone who was more committed to God, Family/Friends and Freedom than Ben. We met in 2020 through politics and when times were tough then and (and now), he was able to lift the spirits of others. He was a good friend - Always down to Earth and made time for everyone. Ben, you will be forever missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. Until next time, Ben. Rest in Peace.
