March 17th, 2006

Benito Fresquez, 85, of Taos passed away on March 17, 2006, born in the village of Chamisal, NM. His birth parents were Angelica & David Fresquez, stepmother, Eloida Fresquez all of whom preceded him in death as did infant brothers and then brothers, David E. and Joe Fresquez. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris. They met in Tuba City, Arizona where both were teachers on the Navajo (Dine) Reservation. His teaching career, especially math, extended to Chimayo, Penasco and retirement in Taos. He was remembered for his ambidexterity, sometimes writing with one hand and then switching to his left hand. Benito was an extremely private and quiet person but whose sense of humor would emerge unexpectedly to everyone's delight. His surviving family include brothers and sisters, Ruben Fresquez (Claudina), Esther Ortega (Gilbert), Elifas Fresquez (Beatrice), Sadie Davis (James), Marietta Barton (Roy), Rosalina Eichwald (Aaron), Roy Fresquez (Margie) and William Fresquez (June), sister in law, Ramona Fresquez plus many other relatives and close friends. He was an avid gardener, furniture and toymaker and animal lover. His particular charity was Menaul School, 301 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 or any other charity of choice. A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be followed by burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps 1942-1946.

I will always remember Benito as a very kind and loving neighbor. As a child, he always welcomed me into his home. I will also always remember how he helped his nephew study after school. Thank you Iris for being such a loving and supportive wife and friend to Benito and all of us Aguilars. Dios te bendiga siempre. Ed
