Barbara Jean Shady (June 2, 1938 - September 24, 2023) Barbara Jean Shady, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2023, in Deltona, Florida, at the age of 85. Barbara was born on June 2, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to her parents, Alva and Elda Kingon, both of whom have preceded her in death. She is preceded in death by her sister, Ardell Witter and her beloved husband, Alton Walter Shady (2018). Barbara is survived by her two sons, Alton G. Shady (Cheryl) and Kenneth Shady (Shellie), along with 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Barbara and Alton Shady met at Southfield High School and were married at Ward Presbyterian Church on May 23rd, 1959. Barbara’s longtime friend, Iris Dalrymple, was her maid of honor. Throughout her life, Barbara was known for her dedication to the Lord and her secretarial skills. She worked as a secretary for Gardner Denver for over 13 years. She also served as Secretary for Union Lake Baptist Church for over 20 years. Her expertise contributed to the success of her husband's Service Master franchise. Although she was mostly a homebody, Barbara sold Avon in a few neighborhoods which really helped her develop confidence in speaking with new people. Walking her beloved puppies over the years also kept her connected to her community. Several neighbors would come out regularly to bring Dutchess or Shadow a treat and share in conversations with Barbara. One of Barbara's passions was creating beautiful floral arrangements. She had a special room dedicated to her love for arranging silk flowers. There, she would craft intricate and colorful displays, bringing joy to those who received them and helping raise money for local charities. Barbara was a devoted mother and loyal prayer warrior for others. Her children often found her kneeling beside her bed in prayer with the Lord. It is perhaps due to her prayers that both of her children devoted their lives to serving the Lord vocationally. Above all, Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family dearly. She made it a point to send birthday cards to each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren every year, a testament to her thoughtfulness and love.
