I never called barbara by her name. I always called her "grams". I had the honor of watching over her the last couple of years. She was always so positive. We would sit and watch tv and every time the Liberty mutual insurance commercial came on she would sing "liberty, liberty, liberty, liberty". I thought it was so cute. I took care of her as if she was my own grams. I will always love and cherish the memories I had with her. She definitely lived her best life and have uplifted mine. ❤️

My mother's love impacted me in an incredible way, always guiding and protecting, and I will forever feel her love. I remember her words when my dad passed away....she repeated a quote from someone- "Grief is like the ocean, it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim." There is no goodbye for my mom, she will forever be in my heart. Mother left me beautiful memories, her love will continually guide me, and even though I cannot see her, she will always be at my side! Her smile, laughs, and positive words gave me joy and many "feel good moments" and because of those, I will strive to carry on her legacy. She has taught me to "stop, and smell the roses", I just have not been her best student! But I will try to be better at living life the way she has tried to teach me. The love my mom had for her family and friends lives on and brings me peace. I am constantly reminded through my mom's memories of how fortunate I am that she was in my life. I wouldn't trade those memories for the world. Some of the best memories I have were on the beach. I can say "the sand of time will never wash away the love that I have for my mom". Her sweet memories will remain forever in my heart. Love her to the moon and back!

When my husband Jim said he wanted me to meet his aunt and uncle, Hoss and Babs Lemons, I laughed. He wasn't going to trick this Southwestern Ohio girl. Hoss and Babs just sounded TOO Texas to be believable. But of course, he wasn't joking. Hoss and I hit it off initially. He was intrigued by my work as a reporter for The Dallas Morning News and we had long conversations about my writing projects. Hoss and I also shared a love of cooking, and he was more than happy to coach me on grilling and smoking meats. I still prepare my brisket and Thanksgiving turkey the way he taught me. But my longest and strongest relationship was with Babs. "We just liked each other from the day we met," she liked to say. When Chris was born, Babs would often stop by our first home on Tremont Street in East Dallas to love on him after she finished her shift at the lab at nearby Gaston Hospital. When Jim's mother Margaret visited from El Paso, Babs would take her - and sometimes me, if I wasn't working on a freelance piece - to her favorite outlet stores in Dallas. We always came home laden with bags of sweaters and slacks. Margaret and Babs had to be the two best dressed ladies in their respective hometowns. Later, after Jim and I sold our software business and the kids went off to college, I joined the Junior League equivalent in our new hometown of Rockwall and started hosting Babs at the group's annual Christmas luncheon at Maggiano's in NorthPark. Babs' bright, positive, gregarious personality quickly endeared her to my women's league friends. In the mid 2000s, my best friend's mother-in-law moved in with her son and daughter-in-law here in Rockwall and Patti, Dorothy, Babs and I began playing bridge once a month at the Dallas Athletic Club. Dorothy was 11 years older than Babs - and few of her friends were still living - so she loved "Babs Thursdays" when she could drink a glass of wine, eat lunch and play bridge with a peer. Patti, Babs and I loved it too. Patti and I were bridge novices, so Babs taught us the ropes. I was concerned at first that Babs wouldn't be able to fit us into her busy bridge schedule, but she did, and Leslie later told me that she cherished our monthly get togethers. (Maybe due to the DAC hamburger we always split? The best!) I cherished Babs Thursdays too. In many ways, Babs served as a substitute mother for me. My mom was an avid bridge player as well, and I'm sure if 1000 miles hadn't separated us, we would have completed many a rubber. But the things Babs and I shared went way beyond bridge. Babs loved to shop, she loved to lunch and she loved to laugh. Her laughter made me laugh too. Babs, Patti, Dorothy and I played bridge through the spring of 2018, about a year before Dorothy passed at the young age of 103. I've missed Dorothy these last two years, just as I know I will miss Babs. But I am happy for them both. Dorothy has been reunited with Patti's son Jonathan, and Babs is in the strong arms of Hoss and their son, Jim's dear cousin, Randy. How wonderful that must be.

Today my mom would have been celebrating her 94th birthday with us! I know she is celebrating "big time" with her loved ones in Heaven, and she knows we love her dearly. She was called to join her loved ones in Heaven several days ago on Thursday, December 10, 2020. I am so blessed to have such great memories of our life together.

Babs and I first met in 1960 when we both worked as medical technologists at Gaston Hospital. Over the years, we forged a friendship that soared beyond the limits of time. It would be difficult to list the wonderful memories of Mimi, Babs, Hoss, Rany, Doug and Leslie and the Grands. We played in the same couples' bridge club for more than 20 years. Babs was a bridge playing fiend and always won! She and I were also great travel buddies. We shared our first trip to Hawaii in 1991 and didn't miss one single thing on any island. When I moved to Philadelphia in 1988, she drove there with me and we took in all of the sites for 2000 miles: Williamsburg among them. I think that we discussed every topic imaginable during those trips. Babs was the best sport, had the biggest smile, was the most loyal friend ever. Knowing Babs is one of the greatest blessings of my life. Her memory will be eternal. Rest in peace, beloved friend, and dance with the angels!
