Barbara Layton Kleinman

We would like to honor our mother Barbara L. Kleinman who passed away peacefully, June 17,2023 at Scott’s House in Santa Fe, NM. She was 97. She was a kind and generous wife, mother, aunt, grandparent and friend. After leaving her home of 60+ years in Shawnee Mission, Kansas she moved to Santa Fe to be near her daughter.
She enjoyed her career as an Occupational Therapist, retiring from teaching at the University of Kansas. She and our father loved to travel, always taking the scenic route. She was a wonderful watercolorist and many of her works adorn our walls.
Special thanks to her loving caregiver and friend Alejandra and all the staff at Scott’s House.
Barbara leaves her son Kim (wife Ellen, son Sam) and daughter Elkie (husband Dave, step grandchildren Shelby, Jesse and Allia and two great grandchildren).
Her smile and giggle were contagious. She will be missed.

The eldest of three lively, quirky, bright and oft argumentative sibs - aunt Barb was early model of grace, civility and diplomacy for me. Aunt Barb and my mother taught me one can be both very smart and very kind. Her quiet teachings and positive impact on others will continue on. Peace to Aunt Barbara and all who knew her.

I will never forget Barb. She was so intelligent, kind, funny, talented, sincere, caring, and adventurous. Our trips to various places (Cuba, California, camping sites to name a few) were wonderful. We could reminisce forever. I loved her stories about the early days of psychiatric treatment too. Barb could sense what kind of person you were pretty quickly and get to the heart of matters. She was absolutely one of a kind and I thought she could go on forever. In many ways she will.

Barbara and Bernie taught us everything to know about camping, martinis and have a wonderful time. Barbara was a great, great lady and a true and everlasting friend. She'll reside in our heart forever. Our sympathies to Kim and Ellen and the entire family. Robin & Steve
