Barbara D Firkin
October 30th, 1942 - September 10th, 2023
October 30th, 1942 - September 10th, 2023
Barbara Dowd Firkin went home to the Lord on September 10, 2023, with her faithful husband of 58 years, Kenneth Jerry Firkin, and her loved ones by her side. She passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in her home with dignity after a good and faithful life. She was born on October 30, 1942, traveled the world throughout her school years, and became a French and English teacher. She met her husband Ken in Louden County, Virginia. They married and relocated to Oceanport, New Jersey, where she tirelessly and faithfully raised her three children, Jeffrey, Emily, and Wesley Firkin. She was known as a most faithful servant to the Lord, as she tirelessly served the United Methodist Church. She often served in Sunday school, as a guest speaker, and she passed on her faith not only to her three children but also to many people throughout her life. Undoubtedly, Jesus and a great host of saved souls have welcomed her home to heaven, where she belongs, doing what she loves best in life, which is to powerfully sing praise songs. Her children would tell you of her unsurpassed love and dedication as a mother who did it all. She was an everything mom. She made sure her children always had everything they needed; she would cheer for them and fight for them when needed, and her encouragement is her children's strength. She had many talents and passions, including sewing and knitting an untold number of blankets, most of which she generously donated to local churches and hospitals. She loved horseback riding, tennis, the beach, baking, and making Christmas ornaments. Whatever she did, she always made sure to teach and encourage everyone around her to join in the fun.Her legacy of hope, faith, and love lives on in her three children and will continue to live on in her five grandchildren, Cora, Tage, Alivia, Sarabella, and Samuel. We all love you dearly Mom! Thanks to you, we know we have a warm welcome waiting for us in heaven, where we will see you again soon!
