Ashok Vyas
September 13th, 1938 - June 9th, 2020
September 13th, 1938 - June 9th, 2020
Ashok Vyas was born on September 13, 1938 to Amritlal and Kamlaben Vyas in Vadodara, India. He grew up in Sojitra but also spent his childhood years in Bilimora, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Dakor. Among seven siblings, he was the eldest of four brothers, had one older and two younger sisters. He studied at M.M. High School in Sojitra and went on to Gujarat College in Ahmedabad for higher studies. He graduated from M.S. University in Baroda in 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He married Daksha Vyas, daughter of Hariprasad and Ansuya Vyas on January 16, 1964. Daksha and Ashok have four children — Nimisha, Sonal, Minal and Akshay. After working at private companies for many years, mostly staying in Vadodara and Amdavad, he migrated to the United States in 1980 and started working for Santa Clara County’s Land Development Department in San Jose, California. He worked hard to settle his family of six in the United States and retired from his County job after his children started their own families.
After he retired, he spent much of his time listening to discourses by his spiritual Guru, Morari Bapu. Ashok imparted many of the spiritual values he inherited from his parents to his four children and nine grandchildren. He enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren and looked forward to their visits at his Branham Lane residence. His simple lifestyle and his gentle, caring ways will always be remembered by everyone who knows him.

It was a pleasure to have worked with Ashok over the years. Not only did he have wisdom and foresight on life and living, but he also had the steadiness and calmness of a seasoned navigator who steered the Land "Ahoy" Development section of the County through uncharted waters. The attached photo was taken on June 7, 2005. Ashok, my friend, rest in peace.

Great guy with ever-smiling face. Never complained about anything, accepted the things and persons as they were. True saintly attitude. I always enjoyed his company

Rest In Peace, Ashok. It was such fun working alongside you, discussing news of the day, and speculating on the Giants chances. Glad we both lived long enough to see the Giants three World Series championships!

Our Dear Ashokfua always had a smiley face, very calm nature, religious, very soft spoken person. He liked to use his words only in necessity. He used only positive and few words. He treated everyone equally with respect and unconditional love. Fua lived his life with discipline and with truly saint lifestyle. He also had a great sense of humor. Fua and Foi will always be in our hearts. They both will be truly missed. Rest In Peace Ashokfua. Om shanti.

Ashok, I will never forget that smiling face, waving hello, each weekend as our car pulled into the driveway. Always ready with the mangoes, lovingly peeled and cut, chips, popcorn and of course Chai. Always a hug and small treat for the kids. The comics for Mila, a notepad for Kaya, stickers for Athena, a funny face and open arms for Julian! Well, open arms for all the kids. He loved all his kids and grandkids so much, he made sure everyone had a healthy snack and a treat too. He made the best chai, dhokla, gobi and raita. His cucumber sandwiches were a delicious treat, as was his potato sak. We never once left his home empty handed. Not only were we filled up with fruit and snacks, but with laughter and so much love. Each week we could come back refreshed with the loving presence of Ashok. In my very limited knowledge of Sanskrit I had learned before I knew Ashok, that his name means remover of sorrow, and never is a more fitting meaning of a name for a person like Ashok Vyas. He always made me feel welcome, and loved. He was definitely a father figure to me, even though he wasn’t my biological Dad he was like a Dad to me. In fact we both have the same habit of saving and reusing jars and containers. He was such a meticulous person, very detailed, very observant. He took everything in stride, and continued to beat the odds and live life on his terms in the way he wanted. He followed his own path and stayed true to that. When life threw him lemons, he didn’t complain, he made lemonade. I admire this so much. I only hope to be as devoted, loved and joyful a person as he. He means the world to our family. I can’t describe how much we shall miss him in this world. Yet I know he will always be there in our hearts. If I feel down I can see his smile, hear his laugh. I will cherish these memories forever. Dad I love you and now I hope you and Mom are taking that motorcycle trip to mount Abu, and catch a film along the way. We love you and thank you for all you have showed us and taught us.
