പിതാവേ Happy Birthday in eternal home. You are ever living in us. We cherish our experiences with you.
Saji Paul

With immense sorrowful heart I am writing this tribute to my ever loving uncle Mar Joseph Chennoth. My first memory of my uncle was coming on vacation every year and visit my house with small gifts for all of us children, we waited for those visits eagerly. As I grew up, he was with me every step of the way. I can never forget the occasion of seeing him off at the Bombay airport when I was working there. Once I got married and moved to USA, he came to visit me and my wife Molly in Maryland at least 3-4 times and stayed in my house in Maryland for several days on each visit. He came to Texas couple of times since we moved here in 2013, his last visit to my home in Houston was in Sept 2018. He would bring us gifts whenever he comes to visit us. He had a lot of friends all over the world and kept in touch with them. He would wake up early morning to say rosary and morning prayers, he had a lot of devotion to mother Mary and tell us about his visit to all holy places including visit with Sr.Lu`cia of Fatima and remind me the need pray rosary every day. He likes Italian food and salads. He liked to exercise and we would go for early morning walks. He has given me lot of advice. He was caring, an open minded, pray full, holy, kind hearted, simple, humble person with a great smile on his face. He has been a role model for me. He was with me in all important life events, he never failed to wish me and say Holy Mass on my birthdays, wedding anniversary and so on. I am so grateful for the opportunity to visit Rome in 10/1999 for a whole week and visit with Pope John Paul II on his ordination as an Arch Bishop. I also had the opportunity to visit my uncle Pithave in Tokyo at his Naunciature 11/2019 and visit with Pope Francis. I grew closer with him and speak and face time with him almost weekly over the years while he is appointed Nauncio in japan. I am missing him dearly, missing his phone calls, but I am sure that he is with Jesus in Heaven and interceding for us till we met again. Saji Paul Chennoth, Houston, Texas, USA. Nephew of Arch Bishop Dr. Joseph Chennoth.

Here’s a picture of Pithav blessing my parents’ wedding. Pithav is my mother’s uncle and he used to come to our house in Alleppey every year during his vacation. I’ve never seen Pithav without that graceful smile on his face. On one such visits he came to know that my birthday is on Oct 12th which is one day before his birthday and he gave me a beautiful rosary he had in his pocket and told me it is very special. He always answered to my emails I used to send when I was small and then after marriage the contact continued through WhatsApp. On one such messages, he told my husband that whenever others think of him and chat with him, it makes him happy as it’s a reflection of Jesus’ love for him. He even sent a lovely game for my kids through WhatsApp few days before he fell ill. He never failed to answer my our messages and emails and I’m sure he’ll continue to do so from heaven above. Even though we are mourning for his loss, we can be happy that we have got our own interceder in heaven to pray for us.

I have known Pithavu since I have been married to his nephew Saji Paul in early 90’s. I quickly learned that he was a private pride of the whole family and everyone liked him quite a bit and talked highly about his multilingual abilities and his past missions all over the world. Throughout the years I have seen and experienced the diplomatic relationship that Pithavu had with every member of the family and friends. He made everyone feel special with his words of encouragement and acts of kindness. He was deep rooted in Catholic faith and had great devotion to Mother Mary. He was a generous person who felt the pain of the lonely, the poor and the oppressed and try to lift them up, just like Jesus did. You could see the joy and heavenly peace on his face and in his words all the time. He never wanted fame or name, he was a loving, simple, humble, holy person and treated everyone with respect and care. He was very careful with his diet and valued health. He liked traveling around the globe and meeting old friends and making new friends. He was with us on our special days over the years and never forget to wish for birthday, anniversary or feast day. We would chat almost every week ever since he was in Japan thru social media, last we met in person was on our family trip to Japan in 11/2019. I am quite sure he is with Jesus in heaven and interceding for his loved ones on earth. We will surely miss his love and fatherly concerns. We love you a lot Pithavu, rest in peace until we meet again in heaven. Molly, Saji and Alvin Paul Chennoth, Houston, Texas, USA.

With profound sadness I write a few words about our dear Pithav. He was so simple in even such a great position. He always kept a smile on his face.I can surely say, he was a role model for all the members of our family.Of course his deep faith in prayer and devoted affection towards the Holy Mother, influenced me to follow that path.Rosary was his strength. He was least interested in wordly positions, I came to know this when I told him that my wish and prayer is to see him in the position of cardinal, suddenly he stopped me and asked me to pray that he may become a saint. Our beloved Chittappan actually deserved to be called 'The living Saint',as he was very kind and merciful to everyone. Once in between our talk he advised to be a model for others with good deed. As Pope Francis said helping the poor and destitues is the Passport to Heaven. It is definite that our beloved Chittappan has attained passport to heaven,by helping the poor and destitutes, which will help him to enjoy the Eternal gift. Oh God give the soul peace By,George Mathew Anthraper and Family
