Anthony Crawford

Anothony Crawford was an African American man who was born in South Carolina in the year of 1865. In October of 1916, Crawford got into an argument with a white man over the cotton he was selling and was then subject to a "Lynching" in the middle of Abbeville all beacuse he had cursed out a white man. Thousands of people from all over overheard the news of his hanging and came to watch this terrifying murder. Although Crawfords "lynching" was extremely inhumane, terrible, and unjust, the people in charge of his hanging were subject to no penalties because of ongoing racism throughout the United States. To this day, Crawford still has not been publicly honored or recognized even after the horrific murder he had earlier faced.
