Annette Laroche

August 8th, 1916 - November 23rd, 2016
Annette, Auntie LaRoche, was born on August 8, 1916. She was the third child of six children and also first daughter among her siblings Adolph, Pellissier, Genilia, Vital and Olivena. Their parents Evarist (LaRoche)and Emelie (Benoit LaRoche) built a home in Lavalee de Jacmel and raised their children with love, honor and respect.
In 1961, Auntie followed her baby sister Olivena to the United States, briefly leaving her only son Eddy behind in Haiti to seek a better life for herself and her entire family. Shortly thereafter, she petitioned for Eddy to join her in the States. Eddy later blessed her with 2 grandchildren, Edward and Jacqueline. Jackie in turn has two daughters, Katarina and Alexandra.
Olive and Annette settled on Weirfield Street in Brooklyn, and nearly everyone in the family who migrated to the States at some point lived on Weirfield including nieces, nephews and close friends. For nearly 40 years the sisters resided in New York and later moved to Florida in 1991.
Once settled in Florida,
they welcomed many others who became their extended family and also became more involved in raising young children. Auntie loved her family and friends. Among other things, she enjoyed cooking, she was such a great cook, lived life to the fullest, and loved playing bingo which was one of her favorite hobbies. Her favorite topic of discussion was politics. She could discuss politics for hours. She lived to see the First Black President of the United States. What a life she led...
It was a blessing to have Auntie grace us with her presence for 100 years. This is not a time of mourning, but a celebration of a fulfilling life. We thank God for giving us such a matriarch in our family. Auntie ruled everyone until the end and none of us had any objections to that.
Thank you Auntie...for everything.
