A raging beauty who never changed from the sweet Welsh girl she always was

Annabel Schofield was a defining face of 1980s fashion, a talented actress, and a creative force behind the camera whose multifaceted career spanned four decades. Born on September 4, 1963, in Llanelli, Wales, she grew up immersed in the film industry as the daughter of British movie production executive John D. Schofield, whose credits included Romancing the Stone, Jerry Maguire, and As Good as It Gets. In the early 1980s, Schofield moved to London and launched a modeling career that would make her an international icon. Represented by the prestigious Take Two Agency, she became one of photographer David Bailey's favorite models and graced hundreds of magazine covers, including Vogue Germany and Italian Vogue. She starred in campaigns for Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Revlon, and Rimmel, embodying the bold spirit of London's fashion scene during the era of New Romantics and innovative designers like Vivienne Westwood. Schofield gained worldwide recognition in the late 1980s for her unforgettable Bugle Boy Jeans commercial, where she delivered the iconic line "Excuse me, are those Bugle Boy jeans you're wearing?" while driving a black Ferrari through the desert. Transitioning to acting, she appeared in 12 episodes of the hit soap opera Dallas as Laurel Ellis, opposite Larry Hagman, and starred in films including Solar Crisis alongside Charlton Heston. In the 2000s, Schofield moved behind the camera, working on major productions including The Brothers Grimm, Doom, and City of Ember. In 2010, she founded Bella Bene Productions in Burbank, collaborating with renowned photographers and artists. She authored the semi-autobiographical novel The Cherry Alignment in 2013, inspired by her 1980s experiences. Annabel Schofield passed away on February 28, 2026, in Los Angeles at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She is remembered as a raging beauty who remained funny, real, and down to earth throughout her remarkable life.

She was one of David Bailey's favorites and appeared in countless shoots for Italian Vogue. She was the forerunner of Take Two — without her, we could never have made it as we did. We loved her because she was funny and real and beautiful and down to earth. She never changed from the sweet little 17-year-old Welsh girl I first met. She was directly loyal, caring, and above all, a raging beauty. She knew her craft. She was the best.
