Ann Rae Bergan was born in September of 1935, to Loys and Evelyn (Thompson) Ebling in Barnesville, MN.  It was there that Ann, and her younger brother Charles, grew up and attended K-12.

After graduating from high school in 1953, Ann received her teaching degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND.  After college, Ann taught Home Economics in Brainerd, MN.

Ann married her high school classmate, Darrel T. Bergan of rural Hawley MN, on June 21, 1958.  After a brief honeymoon, Ann and Darrel travelled to Kaneohe HI, where Darrel was a USMC Jet Pilot and Ann taught high school Home Economics and gave birth to their first child, Greg.  In 1963, they moved to Orange California after giving birth to their second child, Mark, and taught Home Economics at El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA.

In 1978, Ann retired from teaching and moved to Darrel’s childhood farmstead where she farmed with Darrel and their two boys.  She enjoyed raising registered Angus cattle and was also available to operate farm machinery when needed.

In retirement, Ann’s artistic side bloomed as she quickly became a passionate and prolific quilter.  Ann was active in many quilting groups including the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild, Quilters’ Guild of North Dakota, Tee Box Quilters of South Padre Island Golf Club, Killer Bee Quilting Group of Sunshine Country Club and Friendship Hand Piecing Group of Fargo, ND.

On Thursday, November 3, 2022, Ann passed away peacefully at her home in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and a special friend to many.

Ann is survived by her husband, Darrel; her two sons, Greg (Eileen) Bergan, Ventura CA, Mark (Dawn) Bergan, Beavercreek, OR, her granddaughter, Chloe Bergan, Los Angeles, CA; and her brother Charles (Lynda) Ebling, Wilmore, KY.  Preceding her in death were her parents, Loys and Evelyn Ebling.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
