Angie is resting peacefully until her God Jehovah resurrects her to a peaceful paradise earth where she will be healthy and have her youth restored.

Angelean “Angie” Rivers

Angie passed away peacefully from advanced Alzheimer’s Disease on August 9, 2021.  Angie resided at and was lovingly cared for at the Ascension Living our Lady of Peace in Lewiston, NY.

Angie was born in Butler County, Georgiana, Alabama on March 24, 1938. Her parents were Bertha Irene (nee Hamilton) Bradley and Lucious Bradley.  In speaking of her growing up years, she recalled how her parents taught her the value of hard work, self-reliance, and how to save money, lessons she used for the rest of her life.  She also spoke about fun times in her large family.  She said she was the best dancer in Butler County and her dance card was always full.  On occasion, even in her last few years when she moved slowly, she would be happy to demonstrate her dancing skills.  And she could momentarily move like a young woman again, her eyes beaming with energy and youth.

Angie was married to Joe L Rivers for 57 years.  Together they had and raised 6 children: Joseph Lewis, Jay Lee, Timothy Dewayne, Beverly Ann, Christopher Hughes, and Twynette Tyree

Most of her adult life Angie resided in Niagara Falls, New York. There was nothing she loved more than taking care of her family. She took great joy in gardening and always had the prettiest yard on the street as well as growing food for her family. She enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and friends. Besides being a homemaker, Angie was also an employee of and retired from the Niagara Falls ISD as an monitor on the school busses.

In 1973 the family moved from the Love Canal area of Niagara Falls to a cute little red house on 101st Street. She was expecting her last child and told her husband that she didn’t want her child to be born in someone else’s house. She wanted her to be born their own home that they owned as that was a security she needed.

Angie was known to be a non-complainer, no matter how hard things were.  Though she suffered terrible losses and much hardship in her life, Angie maintained an optimistic attitude.  She was a person known to all for being happy, content, and cheerful.  One close friend said about her “Angie was one of the most pleasant-natured people I have ever known.”  Angie’s family and close friends described her as kind, thoughtful, gentle, and generous with both her time and resources.  She was respected and well-loved for her forgiving spirit.  But, Angie was also a person with a great sense of humor, and she had a sassy fun spirit.  One of her children said they loved to watch TV with her because she would always make them laugh so much with all of her comments such as “I bet his mama didn’t see him walk out the door” if someone was badly dressed.  She loved to watch reality shows such as cooking and fashion shows, also The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal.

But above all, Angie was known for her love and loyalty for her God Jehovah.  At the time of her death, she had been baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 59 years.  She generously gave spiritual encouragement to whomever needed it.  And she always was ready to share her love of the Bible with others.

Angie was proceeded in death by her husband Joe L. Rivers and her youngest daughter Twynette Tyree Rivers; her parents Lucious and Bertha Bradley, and her grandma Mary Jane Gilmore. Also by her sisters Annie Bell Thomas and Norene Bradley, as well as her brothers Issacs Bradley, Inzell Bradley, Danika Bradley, Robert Bradley, and Lorenzo Bradley.

Angie is survived by her children Joe Rivers of Buffalo, NY, Jay Rivers of Lockport, NY, Tim (& Rose) Rivers of Aransas Pass, Texas, Beverly Miller of Niagara Falls, NY, and Chris (& Anna) Rivers of Niagara Falls, NY.  She’s also survived by her sisters Mary Presley of Mackenzie, Alabama, Betty Gandy of Ransomville, NY, Josie Jones of Niagara Falls, NY and Bertha Jamison of Andalusia, Alabama.  Also surviving her are her grandchildren Brandon, Breona, Irene, Michael, Terrance, Savannah, and Wayne; and great grandchildren Amari, Asiana, Cameron, Chelsea, Jamari, Jason, Jazmine, Jennifer, Nicholas, Zae gand Aunna, Zephaniah. Angie is survived by other grrandchildren and great grandchildren. Angie also leaves behind a large family of nieces and nephews, cousins, close personal friends, and her spiritual family that resides here in the Niagara Falls area congregations of Jehovah’s witnesses.

A virtual memorial service for Angie will be held on Saturday, August 28th at 2:00 pm EST (1:00 pm CST). A graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Road, Niagara Falls, NY next to her husband Joe L and daughter Twynette Tyree.
