Tuesday, September 22, 2020, Andrew Wong, went to be with Jesus.
Andy was born on May 6, 1961 in Tucson, AZ to Walter and Jane Wong, the youngest of five siblings. On July 1, 1989, he married Julie Ann Tang. Their children are Jacob, Emily, Cassie and Hope.
Andy was a loving husband and father. A cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. A loyal University of Arizona Wildcat (despite graduating from ASU). A Diet Coke and $1 menu connoisseur. A devoted Costco member. A recreational volleyball cheerleader. A fame-worthy lyric improviser. A lawn mowing legend. An infamous volleyball blocker, hitter and slimer. A fierce basketball rebounder and boxer-outer. An amateur movie critic. A die-hard Denver Bronco fan. An avid nickname bestow-er. A serious card game competitor and game maker. An easily recognized whistler. A cargo-shorts wearing champion. An indispensable homework, glasses, laundry, knick-knack locator. A closeted One Direction, Taylor Swift, and High School Musical groupie. An everyday cul-de-sac pepperer. A notoriously terrible liar and clue giver. A grill master extraordinaire. A gentle giant with an infectious laugh and everyone’s favorite smile. A welcomer of people. A beloved Child of God.
He will be missed more than we can say.
Cards may be sent to 5746 S Telluride Ct, Centennial, CO 80015.

The best way I know to honor Andy is to honor how he ministered to me. His engagement with people was like no other. When he would serve the Body of Christ distributing the elements of the Lord's supper to us, he would look you straight in the eyes and with every bit of compassion he'd say "This is Christ's Body broken for you." It was so personalized. So intimate. And so needed. He did this for each and every person he served. The last two Sundays I've had the privilege of sharing the elements in a small gathering of disciples. I got to say along with Andy, "This is Christ's body broken for you." I completely lost it the first time. Miss him dearly.

Andy, the consummate Family Man and all around good guy. What a blessing to all who came in contact with him, and even more so when you were able to "bear down" and get close. I can't remember if we first met at Greenwood Community Church, or at the now-closed 24 Hour Fitness on Orchard. It doesn't matter. What matters is that we DID meet and bonded over church, biking, love of family and working out. We quickly formed our little bike commuting routine, meeting on the bike path at Parker Road and Orchard, and continuing on to the 24, early in the morning, often before it was light out. More than once, we also rode our bikes to Greenwood for the Men's Breakfast meetings to share our love for the Lord and learn lessons about how to be good fathers and husbands. Not that Andy needed much help. In our many discussions while riding, it was always so clear that Andy was so devoted to his family. Given that my kids were a bit older, I was able to help his education by telling him of the mistakes I had made. Such a supportive man, always striving to be the best he could be to his family and to the community at large. We had drifted apart over these past few years. My job location changed, the 24 Hour location closed, we moved to a different church. My biggest regret is that I did not see Andy in 2020. While I knew of the situation, I did not want to compromise his health outcome during these trying times. And then, compounding it all, our own family tragedy with the passing of our daughter Ashley. My heart goes out to Julie and your beautiful family. Like Lori and me, we just have to accept that God's plan has some reason to it all. It does not change our grief, our longing for a different outcome. God bless.

Mae and I were devastated and shocked by Andy's passing. We only saw Andy during the holidays, but it was always a pleasure visiting with him whenever we say him. When I saw Andy last, I commented on how healthy he looked, and he told me he given up soda recently. We are so saddened that we will no longer be with us. Our hearts go out to Julie, Jacob, Emily, Cassie and Hope.

Andy was the best! Of course he left behind a huge hole. So fortunate I got to witness his love for Jesus, family and friends. Miss you Andy!

Andy was such a model of kindness, joy and selflessness growing up. I’m blessed to have been born into his family, but I don’t think our shared blood was the reason for his generosity or tenderness. It’s just the kind of man he was, and I’m better for it

I could always count on Andy for belly laughs. It didn't matter if we had several hours to laugh and play games or just a quick hello at church, he brought joy and laughter to each encounter. His laughter wasn't the only thing that I could count on, nor was it the only thing in Andy's life that was contagious. I always loved talking to Andy about Jesus. His love for the Lord wasn't just evident, it was contagious. Several years ago we taught through Hebrews 11 and the great heroes of the faith with the youth group and I kept thinking that Andy was one of those modern day heroes...he certainly was a modern day hero to me. I was going through a difficult period several years ago when both Andy and I served on a search committee together and every time we met he took time to encourage me and pray over me--what a gift in a dark time for me! I loved watching Andy love on hundreds of students, too..especially since my kiddos were among them. He pursued my kids reminding them of how much they were loved, not just by he and Julie, but more importantly by their Heavenly Father. Our whole family is different because of the blessing of knowing Andy. I am different. Andy, my friend, I will miss you, but I look forward to the day when you can greet me with that ginormous smile and introduce me face to face with Jesus.
