Alton Jennings Eborn, Jr.
August 23rd, 1944 - April 15th, 2024
August 23rd, 1944 - April 15th, 2024
"As you are now, So once was I, As I am now, So someday you shall be, Remember Me!"
Alton (Al) Jennings Eborn, Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully in the company of his family on the evening of April 15th, 2024.
Alton was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised in Washington, North Carolina. He was an 8th generation Eborn. In 1963 he graduated from Washington High School in Beaufort County NC then joined the Army National Guard. Upon completion of basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina he was stationed in Greenville, NC and served his country through the next years. He met and married Betty Jean King then moved to Alexandria, Virginia where had a child, Anthony Eugene Eborn. Alton was talented in many areas to include a God given gift of his singing voice, abilities to lead talented musicians, and he was a born salesman. He went to work to support the family using his talents and working his way up the ranks in sales positions. Alton also took flying lessons and achieved his pilot’s license in 1973. When he wasn’t selling, he was working gigs in the local honkytonks and other venues around the area. In the 1980’s he was the lead singer for “Al Eborn and The Taste of Honey.”
While living in Northern Virginia, Alton met the love of his life, Pamela (Pam) Eborn. They became a happily blended family when Alton and Anthony moved in together with Pam and her two children. Al and Pam were eventually married, and the family continued to prosper. Alton established a contractor partnership and became self-employed as an independent sales consultant where he built original machine designs and sold product supplies. Once the children were on their way to graduating, Alton and Pam found their first home to purchase together in Nokesville, Virginia. There Alton ran the industrial chemical business with continued yearly success. During the Spring/Summer months the family vacationed in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. There were many birthday parties, laughs, and memories made for over 40 years.
Alton was preceded in death by his father Alton Jennings Eborn and mother Mary Louise Alligood Eborn.
He was survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Eborn, by only two days. His sons Anthony Eborn and Joseph Notarnicola; daughter, Janice Smith; his granddaughter Emmalia Foster Notarnicola; grandson, Brandon Sefton, and great grandson, Bryce Sefton; his sisters Mary Lou Chandler and Catherine Spencer. He was also survived by his nephew Thomas (Tommy) Chandler and his wife Babs Chandler.
Alton enjoyed his life immensely. He loved to work at the family home, gardening, mowing, and tending to the land was his therapy. He liked his independent business in Northern Virginia and spoke highly of his loyal and caring clients. Al and Pam enjoyed the North Carolina coast, seafood, and traveling during his time off. Most of all, he loved the company of his wife.
