Allen Reid Linville: November 1, 1957- March 18, 2020 It is with incredible sadness that we share the news of the passing of our husband and father. Allen left us on March 18, 2020, after a 2 year battle with cancer. Mourning his loss are Anne, his wife of 35 years, and daughters Elizabeth and Rebecca. Allen will also be missed by his brothers and their families, Jim and Mary Linville; Ken, Colleen and Chris Linville; as well as many cousins in Edmonton and across the country. Born in Edmonton in 1957, Allen was raised in various communities throughout Alberta while his father, John, served in the military. Eventually the family settled in Westlock where Allen completed his secondary education. Allen graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. in Geology in 1982. He spent some time working in this field before completing an after degree in Education, eventually becoming a physics teacher with Edmonton Public Schools. In a teaching career that spanned over 25 years, Allen worked at Strathcona High School and Queen Elizabeth High School before joining the staff of W.P. Wagner in 2000, where he taught for the rest of his career. Allen enjoyed several hobbies that included fishing, amateur radio, travelling, reading and finding new beers to sample and add to his beer app. Mostly he enjoyed being with his family. We want to thank the staff on unit 43 at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassionate care over the last few months. Due to the current public health concerns, we will delay a Celebration of Life until a later date. Donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Covenant Health (Palliative Care-Grey Nuns), or the Canadian Red Cross.

I am sad to loose my wonderful brother in law. He was such a kind, fun guy always teasing the kids. I’m very proud and blessed to have had him in my life and will truly miss him. ❤️❤️❤️

My condolences to the Linville family. As a child we visited the Linvilles often in Slave Lake and then in Wesltlock. Aunt Sophie made the best brownies. As adults we did not remain as close; so it is good to read about Allen as a husband and father, brother and teacher. And also to know about how he enjoyed spending his time. As we cannot join together now, it will be nice to see the family later at a celebration of Allen’s life and offer condolences in person.

I work with Elizabeth in Lethbridge, and I want to convey my condolences to Elizabeth and her entire family. I hope your family can enjoy the comfort of friends and family even in the midst of these challenging times.

I had the pleasure of working with Allen at W.P.Wagner School. He was always lots of fun, kind and committed to his work. Truly a lovely colleague. Today I am blessed to work with his wonderful wife Anne. I enjoy hearing great stories about this beautiful family. My heart is with Allen’s family whom I know will miss him tremendously.

I'm deeply saddened by the passing of my older brother. I spent many years unemployed and generally lost, and he was always willing to help out. We had some glorious fishing trips with my other brother and cousin, too. He took on the great responsibility of looking after our mom in her final years, and his efforts were greatly appreciated by Mom and the rest of us. Allen had a great sense of humour and a great mind for science and math, not to mention impeccable taste in beer. I was a bit nervous when he came down to Lethbridge and sampled my homebrew, but he seemed to like it and that was a great relief. I'll always remember him as far more clear-thinking and reasonable than me, and though he had some sad times in his own life, he was always a stable support for me. I'll miss his tremendously.

My big Brother, Back in the last century when I was in grade 4 and Allen would have been grade 8, I was being bullied by a kid at the pool. I finally got enough nerve to tell the old man. The next evening all 3 of us are at the pool. When the bully was identified Allen hopped in the water beside him and said a few words. A few moments later the bully was heading for the exit and I never had to deal with him again. We may not have always gotten along and we sure bugged each other enough but you were always there when I needed you. From bullies, to help with math, to broken down cars. I miss our fishing and outdoor trips where you always out fished me and the adventures that came along with them from sinking the canoe, losing the boat off the top of my truck and the look on your face when I told you that you shot the wrong species of deer when you didn't. (I don't know why our wives let us go out together) I was proud to stand beside you at your wedding, hold your daughters and see them grow into beautiful women and have you as an uncle for my son. Love Ken
